Where do you guys get your Am parts?

I have finally decided to try and build my first aircraft kit, a F4U-I Bird Cage Corsair, academy, 1/48 scale. but after looking at builds, and pictures of the real thing, I have realised that this engine that comes with it looks oogly. and heres my problem, I dont know any american based online shops that sell after market parts

Try justplane hobbies. You can find them on ebay or go directly to their site. www.justplanehobbies.com

The easiest way is to find the part you need first, either thru an online review or a web search. Then, knowing the part/ manufacturer, do a search. The online hobby dealers will be lined up like hungry dogs at the gate.

I have found GB to be as good as the USA, as long as you buy in reasonable lots.

Great Models, Squadron, there good and have lots of neet stuff in stock…Harv

I buy 99% of my AM parts from either Squadron or Sprue Brothers. HTH! [tup]

Sprue Bros. …unbeatable.

Only place I order from [bow]

I try and get mine from www.luckymodel.com. The cool thing is, you can order a cheap photo-etched set, and the shipping is really low. AND, there’s no minimum order. I would order a 1/72 PE set for around $5 total. These are the smaller sets, not the bigger ones, BTW.

Only problem is, the stock is usually low and takes a while to get here.

I just checked and you can get the ZOOM Eduard set for the Tamiya Corsair for 6 bucks including shipping. But it looks like it’s not in-stock. You could go ahead and order, and wait…but there’s no telling how long it would take.

SPrue Bros., Squadron and Great Models…sometimes Luckey Models

I got an Eduard set it it looks great. This is the color zoom series where the cockpit interior is pre painted.

I wasnt able to find an engine for a corsair… and now I need one DESPERATLY the back piece of mine fell, somewhere, I took my room appart 3 times trying to find it, and cant. Im in a panic here

I buy 99.9% of my AM sets online and mostly from Squadron or Great Models sites. I go to the other sites when I can’t find an item or they don’t have it in stock.

But for engines, I highly recommend checking out this site. http://www.neomega-resin.com/vector/home.htm. These engines are a little expensive but the detail and accuracy is awesome, and like Swanny says, they’re a kit in themselves. They have the variations for the Corsair -1 and -4/7 models.

Hope this helps.

Quickboost makes lots of engines for a whole lot of aircraft. They are 1 piece with several small add ons, but detail is spot on. Most of for mentioned sites carry them. I have the 1/32 for my Corsair and I love it!!..Harv (this is 1/32)

My corsair is 1/48th scale, I checked the engine they sell, but it doesnt have the attachment peg for the propellor to go onto…

[#ditto]

I have pretty much given up on Great Models and Squadron, still get a lot of specialty stuff from Roll Models also.

Are you talking about just a peg or rod on which to attach the propellor, or do you mean a scale representation of the actual keyed shaft the propellor locked onto on the real aircraft?

If it’s just a shaft/rod/peg (will this get censored? [:O]), you can use a piece of sprue or small-diameter dowel, or brass rod (there’s that word again).

Brad

I just mean the attachment point itself, if I am going to go out and buy a aftermarket piece for this engine, I dont want to have to mod it to make it useable.
