Where are all the "B and C" Mustangs?

After seeing that Tuskeegee stang post the other day I got the urge to build the B or C possibly with the Malcolm hood and I went shopping but to my dismay, I ended up ordering the Tamiya 1/48th because, well, that was all gretamodels was offering. I thought that the old Monogram would still be out there (is it?), or Hasegawa or some company would offer the B/C but, nooooo…
Plenty of D’s out there for sure. I know the Tamiya is a nice kit and I will relish building it but I would sure like to see some more B/C’s on the market (new releases). ( I ordered an “H” to just for something a little different). Any of you 'stang enthusiasts out there with me???

Steve

I am… I would also like to see well dont Twin Mustang kitted

Accurate Miniatures kitted the B & the only C with the small fin fillet in 1/48. ICM also released the B, but it was a low quality rip-off of the Tamiya kit.

I saw that greatmodels does offer an F-82 Twin stang, but right in the “buy it” thumb there was a review that, well, said the canopy had bad fit and was too thick etc… so I passed. I checked the AM for a Vacuuform replacement but???the kit reviewer recommended bashing “D” canopies and cutting the fuse to make those fit but I’m pretty sure that the F-82 canopies and windscreen were different than the P-51. Bummerrrrr…

Crockett, That’s the Modelcraft kit which is better passed by unless you REALLY WANT an F-82 & are REALLY WILLING to WORK on a kit. The canopies are probably the least of many major problems with the kit.

Great models is taking pre-orders on the Tuskegee C, and 9th A.F. aces B model. It might be worth the wait. Those are the AM kits…of course

I have the monogram B kit as well as the revell B kit in 1/32nd scale interestingly enough the Monogram kit is a red tail and it has the Malcom hood so im pretty sure its still in production.

What happened to the (Monogram???) 1/48 C model of Don Gentiles “Shangri-La” bird? Is that OOP?

If you step down in scale you may have some better luck… Academy has 2 1/72 kits of these birds. Hobbycraft, Hasegawa, Italeri, and even Heller have kits availiable too. Actually there are a few more out there too i believe.

In any case, if you’re jonesing for a Mustang B/C and are willing to build a small-fry you’ve got plenty of options. [:D]

I’ve built one of the Academy kits and was very pleased with the detail and scheme options. The kit went together smoothly and proved to be a fun build.

Good luck!

recently i got the icm “c”. good kit but watch the fit. had horrible gaps on mine.

same here, trying to find a good B to build Tex Hill’s plane when he was flying witht he 23rd FS in China. Looks like Tamiya’s my only choice.

You can pick up an AM -C on ebay pretty easily…at least until it eventually is available in rerelease…

Where are they? On the closet shelf waiting until my modeling skills can do them justice. Have some aftermarket stuck away for a couple of them. I’ve opened the P-51A, it looks like a great kit.

Check on e-bay…I just bought an Accurate Miniatures P-51B in 1/48 for $15…plus $5 or $6 to ship. There were several on there yesterday, when I last looked.

I have 2 “C’s” & a “B” from ICM that are on the shelf.
Still looking for “By Request” decal; considering that the T/A’s a/c are more popular (sic), you’d think someone would come up with the CO’s bird.

The ICM kit builds up fairly nice with a little work. Here’s one I did in RAF markings.
