When to apply future floor finish

Hey

I am going to apply future floor finish. However I want to use my pencil to highlight the flaps and other details on my FA-18E. Should I apply the floor finish first and then use the pencil on the contours of the wings. Or should I use the pencil first and then apply the floor finish.

Is Future floor polish the same as using clear varnish as per a previous post I made

Use pencil lead instead and seal it with clear varnish…black ink has a nasty tendency to bleed and turn purple after a time…

I would use the pencil first, applying future will make the surface too slippery for the pencil carbon to hold. You need the uneven surface of a flat finish for that.

You want to seal in the details you are adding so the Future goes on after to lock everything in. I add a little rubbing alcohol to my Future mix which makes it go a bit smoother and more even.

when you say future goes on after to lock everything in. Does this mean you put the decals on before you put the future mix or after. I have been adding my decals after the future floor polish has been applied.

I like your idea of adding rubbing alcohol to the future.

The idea is to seal your paint job with the future. After the coat of future you apply the decals. The future provides a smooth surfce wich hepls with the application of the decals and helps the deacls “lay down”. After this you can do your panel line washes and weathering. After this you can either apply another coat of future or a dull coat if the finish is too shiny.

We all have our own methods, so this is how I do it:

Do your paint job. If you use acrylics (and only acrylics), you can put a little Future in the mix and will give you a glossy finish. If using flat enamel, I lightly polish the surface with a piece of soft cotton t shirt. I like this method since it produces a satin finish and will leave a smoother surface for the Future application.

Let the Future dry for at least 24 hours, otherwise if using setting solution will cloud up the Future. It hapenned to me the other day when I waited a couple of hours only. Put the decals on and let them dry.

Shoot another coat of Future to protect the decals from the weathering and washing process.

When dry, shoot either clear flat or gloss to seal everything in and you are done.
