When I use up my Tenax 7R....

I am going to use the cap…

and drill a Hole in it , “Just the right size” in the center…and through the gasket (keep the gasket in place too)

so as to insert my “touch and Flo” into the bottle, and reduce the amount of evaporation that occcurs, when I am in a “glueing” session with the Touch and Flo. (cap off, “touch and flo” sitting in bottle, etc)

so this “Cap with a Hole” will just be used when needed, and of course the bottle will be stored with its regular cap on it.

I will also __mount the Tenax glue jar securely into a HEAVY BASE …__so I dont turn it over as I remove or insert the Touch and Flo.

whadda ya think ?

Did you get the “3-part” kit with the Touch n Flow, Tenax and the special little injector/reclaimer bottle?

I haven’t used it yet…but the instructions say to decant Tenax7 into the little bottle…and directs how to get the fluid into the TnF…and how to get it out when done.

LOL, I just knew there was something “out there” for this situation…

noo, I have not seen that, got the Touch and Flo by itself.

I know there are threads about them clogging, and indeed, they will get melted styrene on the tip, so thats one reason I let it sit in the bottle while my fingers are keeping parts together.

When I am done, I just blow on the glass end, and the remaning tenax goes back into the bottle. Of course, thats for me, I am NOT reccomending anyone do that

I just use a small brush attached to the cap of my Tenax-7R. I forgot where I got the brush/cap combo, except that it came off of an old bottle of another brand of liquid glue, of which I don’t remember the brand name. The little brush works GREAT!! I have had no problems with it. Whenever I get a new bottle of Tenax-7R, I just transfer the brush/cap combo to the new bottle.

The ‘set’ I wrote about…the Tenax7 is the standard 2 oz. bottle with brush in cap. The mysterious extra bottle is much like a small Visine bottle with an 1-1/2 inch long hypo type needle.

Directions speak of injecting the fluid into the TnF…then when done gluing…gently squeezing the injector bottle so as to form a vacuum…putting the needle into the TnF again…release the “squeeze” and it will completely draw all the solvent from the TnF. (The word “completely” comes from the instructions) We’ll see.

There has been much posted here about clogging, but I believe that was mostly when using CA in the TnF. I wouldn’t try CA in it myself.

As far as clogging the tip with styrene…if you draw the tip smoothly and quickly along a seam, I can’t see this happening. If you need to hold the tip in one spot too long and get some melted styrene on the tip…wipe it off immediately…then go to your AB…insert the nozzle into the TnF and let 'er blow!

I’ve done much inserting here![(-D]

The included 2oz bottle in near useless. You waste more tenax than you save from “evaporation”

I open the tenax, dip in the touch n’flow, fill’er up and cap the bottle. At the end, I blow the excess back into the bottle. And if some styrene does get on the end, I just dip it in the tenax and it unclogs itself in a matter of a second or two.

Every time I use that injector bottle, I get more tenax on the outside of the Tn’F than I do in it.

Whatever you do, don’t accidentally suck on the Tn’F when it’s full of tenax. I was gluing some parts together and ran out of places to hold things, so I grabbed the Tn’F with my teeth until I could put it down safely. Without thinking, I inhaled through the Tn’F and got a decent squirt of tenax in my mouth. That stuff tastes awful. Thankfully, it’s fast evaporating and I didn’t swallow any. It’s been a few weeks and there haven’t been any odd side effects.

OMG! I’m dying![(-D]

Fred…say it ain’t so!

Oh, it be so [(-D]

At first, I didn’t realize why my tounge got so cold. Then I realized it was from the fast evaporation…then I realized what was evaporating so quickly [yuck]. I spit out the Tn’F (thankfully, it didn’t break) and then spent 10 minutes just spitting into the sink to make I didn’t swallow any.

Yeah, it was a rough day and that’s when I decided to take the rest of the day off from building.

I am positively dying Fred! Happy you aren’t!

I keep mine secure, stands in a standard size roll of electrical tape laying on it’s side. Near perfect fit, giving it a large base. I spilled a whole bottle of Tenax once, vowed to never ever mke the mistake again.

Steve

I seem to recall a thread about ‘tipsy bottles’[(-D] The tape roll is a good idea! I somehow have trained myself to return glues and such to an area at the rear of the bench…paint bottles…I’m not so disciplined! (but they’re tougher to knock over!)

may I ask where did you guys get the Tenax 7R with the touch and flo applicator, my LHS only sells the glue fever seen any tnf applicator the only glues that that they sell and I have are proweld which has a little brush in it and Tamiya liquid cement which has a tiny aplicator-thank you

I purchase my Weld On #3 in quart cans…I have and sell solvent bottles that I add a small amount into to use as my “working” supply of solvent…just in case of spills or forgetting to replace the cap on the bottle. I never keep the bottle on the bench top, rather I place it on a shelf above my bench or back into its storage spot…this keeps it from getting dumped over after getting bumped while working. I also use one for Tenax…the amber bottle also protects the solvent from UV light which will reduce its effectiveness.

I got mine (still haven’t used it, though) from megahobby.com They have a “kit” that includes the tenax, the “filler” bottle mentioned above, and the TnF, as well as an instruction sheet. Another online store (can’t remember which right now) has a TnF set that comes with the filler bottle, TnF, adn Ambroid ProWeld. (Yes, I ordered both! I didn’t know that the TnF came with the Tenax I ordered, and didn’t know that the TnF from the other place came with the ProWeld! At least I have enough solvent/glue and an extra TnF!

At least your LHS sells the glue! Mine has a choice of Testors or nothing.

I have used the ProWeld a bit, and must say that it is SOOO much better than using tube-glue!

Michael

For paint and cement bottle-stands, I just use various chunks of foam from all that packing material that’s all over the place these days… This particular one is about 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches and the only tool you need to make it is an X-acto knife…

And yeah, it’s Testor’s… I like the stuff…

thank you all for your replies

I use a metal drafting pen to apply Tenax. Any build up can be easily scraped off with no damage to the pen.

Some years ago, I found a desk organizer with round tubes to hold pens, etc. The tubes were not secured to the base, held in place with friction. One of these was just the right size for a Tenax bottle, as well as for Zip Kicker. I screwed this onto the edge of my desk and drilled holes to accommodate a bit of aluminum tube as a base. When I have a session when I’m going to be using either of these, the bottle goes in the tube. the top comes off. Absoluutley no possibility of a spill.
