When did Germany switch from panzer grey to Dunkelgelb?

I want to do a Kharkov era Tiger I Early Production with winter camo. Based on the period (February 43) should i paint panzer grey or dunkelgelb as my base coat? I know that dunkelgelb was used from some time in 1943 onwards but was it before or after Kharkov?

Check this link. There is the timeline defining the switch from Grey to Dark Yellow as well as drawings. It looks like Tigers were in Winter Camo and Dark Grey + Dark Yellow Camo at Kharkov.

There are two other books by the same author as stated on web.I have the Tiger I on the western front.I highly recomend this book if you want to do the Tiger right.I am also hoping to get a hold of the Tiger I on the Eastern front.Great books for refernce materal.Digger

Thanks for the tips, Dunkelgrau it is.

Hooray for gray! It’s really a great medium to work in on the earlier German stuff…so many possibilities for weathering from worn/dusty Spring France look to whitewash Russian winter…

yeah the white wash will be fun to do i just hope it looks good i’ve never done winter camo before.

Wasn’t it when they ran out of gray paint??[:o)][;)][:p]
