Wheel well details

Ok, I have the way I’ve been doing it but I think there’s a better way.

I have a 1/32 scale aircraft with molded in lines, hoses, etc in the wheel well. The best thing to do would be to just sit there and try and paint each hose and line seperate. We all know how fun that would be. Is there a way to prevent making mistakes? Or even mask the mistakes? Would it be better to just dry brush it? I’m leaning to doing that but I don’t think dry brushing would be enough.

Thanks.

Hey Dana
Having problems with that A-10 again?, what I do is paint the Wheel wells their color then apply the grime wash then dry brush the areas where the lines & hoses are the put the high-lightening touches then coat with Future and wella looks better then Government work

Heh, actually, this is a big Mig-29. After that, I have a 1/72 Academy OV-10A Bronco. Then the A-10…and I can wait!

Oh, wheel wells. Ok, that sounds good. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks.

BTW, the post here about the strut line is alos the Mig. Consider a gear up of sorts before I hit the A-10.

Dana, you could always scrape out the moulded in stuff & put in bits of wire or whatever to replace it, looks a whole lot better. I did the airfix 1/24th P51 that way, not that there was much there to start with. It took nearly a month, but I have depth, texture & more realism than paint can get.
Use phone wire, florist’s wire, stretched sprue, guitar wire’s (for that convoluted hose look) bit’s of plastic card, anything really as long as you get the right effect.

Which is precisely what I’m doing for my 1/72 VG104, with the addition of operating undercarriage

Well, that’s fine and all, but usually my problem is finding pictures of the inside of the wheel well of that aircraft anyway. Even if you do find some, it’s rare that it’s good enough to be able to do that. Am I right?
