WHEC

Hi! Does anyone know of any kit of the Casco class AVPs of WW2 which consequently waas classified as Barnegat WHECs post war? In Any scale in any meuim? Or scale plans for a scratchbuilt project? And a further query, if it ends up being scratchbuilt, what would be the best hull to start it off with? These ships served in WW2, later in the USCG up to Vietnam at Squadron 3, later sold out to some foreign navies. Thanks![:)]

Try searching “Deans Marine”:. I am not 100% sure but Barnegat seems to ring a bell …
Good luck,
Bruce

Here is someones online listing for the Barnegat class AVP seaplane tenders.
http://www.skyrocket.de/usnavy/index_frame.htm?http://www.skyrocket.de/usnavy/lists/a-tender.htm
It at least gives you some names of ships that may appear in model form.
There isn’t a lot of information about them, even in my Conways.
Although it also lists the AVP 14-20 as redesignated as AVD 1-7(1940)
So another clue as to some search parameters.

I found nothing on Floating Drydock,

I did find these, but I know nothing about the vendors.

And this listing

Good luck with your search.

Commanders Series Models (Iron Shipwrights) does a 1/350 scale resin model…you should be able to build it without any troubles if you have some modeling experience.

Thanks Bruce, Umi, and Jeff! Been searching for quite some time for such and finally some leads! Now, if I could access such websites and the prices are reasonable…!

I wasn’t aware of the Barnegat class of WHECs being available in a resin kit, but I do have a lot of other USCG subjects on my kit list…

Neither was I RC boater, until the timely advise of Jeff, Umi and Bruce. BTW, are there also kits available of the USCG Point class patrol boats?

Yes, but not in plastic. The old Lindberg kit of the Cape class 95 footers is the only one I know of in plastic.

There are a few 82s available in larger scales, aimed at the RC crowd.

(I’ll be updating my list soon with the info from this thread!)
