When I first joined the forum it was the King Tiger. However, I’ve since elevated the Panther G Late to the top pf my list. Just love the sleekness of it and arguably the best all around German AFV.
My favorite tank destroyer is a tie between the Elefant with it’s brute looks and the sleek Jagdpanther.
The Hetzer, a nice little pocket panzer that you could probably hide almost anywhere. Cute little tank.
Second place would be the M18 Hellcat, a lot of fire power in such a small vehicle.
IS-2. I also like the looks of the IS-3 but it did not see action in WW2, correct?
Always an interesting question…I would have to say that my favorite is actually an entire family of vehicles derived from the 38t chassis. It’s ironic to me that a non-German design saw so much utilization in so many different forms from start to finish…some quite ugly and ungainly, others sleek and beautiful ala the Hetzer. [;)]
Jagdtiger–ever since I stood next to the one at Aberdeen and trembled at it’s massiveness.
Second would be the Jagdpanther-sleek, like the Ferrari of Armor!
Thank-wise, it would be the Tiger.
I’m with Doog’s second on this one - Jagdpanther all the way.
My 3 favorites would be:
Vickers Mk VI light tank - the Mini Cooper of WWII armor
Like Wbill - anything built off of the Pz 38 (t) chassis
Maybe its the Christie suspension but the Cruiser Mk IV (A13 Mk II)
Mike T.
To quote Willie, “I’d ruther dig. A movin’ foxhole attracts th’ eye…”
That said, and speking purely from asthetics, I’d pick the “German Sherman”, a Panzer IV… It just looks “right”…
Jagdpanther + ISU-152 (What a Brute!!!)
Pzkw III + T-34/85
Tried to get away from the Tigers,Panthers,+ Shermans
Shermans and Panthers. Although I must confess I’m not a big fan of painting Panther roadwheels.
Panthers and Shermans are my most favorite “tanks”, but I like the self-propelled tank destroyers best like the StuG III, SU-100 and the Jagdtiger to name a few.
Jagdtiger, E 100, whatever I’m working on right now.
WHich is actually a Sherman.
There is actually some speculation that one regiment used them in Manchuria against the Japanese but nothing is confirmed.
My favorites would be:
For just looks, I gotta admit to liking the M3 Grant. It looked imposing with the sponson gun and the big wide turret.
For function with looks it’s a toss up between the Panther and M26, they both look like killers. And they were.
In TDs, I like the angular lines of the M10, Jagdpanzer IV, and Jagdpanther. Sleek looking hunters.
Favorite Tank(s)
1.) Sherman (especially the curvy M4A1) - very rugged, reliable and served as a platform for many weapon systems, a real workhorse
2.) Panther - arguably the best tank of WWII with its well balanced design in terms of protection and firepower
Favorite Tank Destroyer(s)
1.) M36 Jackson - probably the most successful US tank destroyer in WWII
2.) Jagdpanther - very well protected and carrying a very heavy punch
Generally, except for the British Matilda, the German machines were nothing short of downright ugly, and their ugliness frankly did nothing for their battlefield performance.
The Panzer III’s were sitting ducks for the British Grant’s longer range 75mm guns.
The Tiger’s non-sloping armor made it easy for the British to knock out in North Africa with their 6-Pounder anti-tank guns. It mass worked against it in Russia, where it tended to get bogged down and thusly out-maneuvered by theT-34’s.
Although I have admired the Panther (the German version of the Russian T-34), since it did not have a reliable engine, and was prone to breaking down, I am reluctant to get over-excited about it. As I understand, this was primarily because the Germans, in their inflexible mentality, did not use flexible fuel lines, so their ridgid lines were prone to breaking, causing engine fires.
On the other hand, the dumbest tank design, especially considering it was an Allied one, probably goes to the Churchill with its milipede fashion wheels, as well as its underpowered and unreliable engine, a situation made far worse by the engine’s lack of accessibility. Another serious shortcoming of the tank was its weak armament.

pzkpfw IV and VI they look brutal and effectve, representing the german army in a most striking way. Merkavas are also high on the list
Merkavas are post WW II.
