What's your favorite scale?

I’m excited to get back into this great hobby and as I work on my 1/48 scale Stuka J87 B…I wonder…what is everyone’s favorite scale to work on. I guess I prefer 1/48 fighters because their big enough to detail and small enough to hide my flaws.

I like 1/32 for a project I want to devote a lot of time too, 1/48 would be my second choice due to the less space they take up, but recently I have been working on some 1/72 Bi-planes and Hvy. Bombers and I was Quite Surprised at How Great those little kits are. So My Favorite -I Guess I Prefer them All as Long as they Have Wings and a Propeller. [:-^]

I prefer 1/32, can’t deal with the fiddley bits.

1/48 when subject not available in 1/32.

While I would LOVE to work exclusively in 1:32 (or larger) scale, the scarcity of subjects and finished size are barriers. My usual scale is 1:48 whenever the subject is available/affordable, 1:72 for the others. My Mark I optical devices aren’t what they used to be and detail work in 1:72 can be a bit of a pain in the butt [:D] !

oh, btw,

back to the hobby and to the forums!

1/48 scale is my preference. I can’t get the required level of detail needed in 1/32. 1/48 is a great balance between necessary detail and size of subject. Braille scale (1/72) is just too small for me to enjoy.

1/6 for me. (Please don’t pick on me…) [:D]

I build RC planes and I actually like building them more than flying. I’m here on FSM to learn the finer details from you all. Maybe one day I’ll try my hand at 1/32 or 1/48 but right now I am building the larger scale warbirds.

1/72 because I like building aircraft, armor and ships and I like having everything in the same scale for comparison. Also the wide variety of subject matter is a bonus.

I work with 1/48 on 90% of the kits that I own, and when it comes to armor I only work with 1/35. I enjoy 1/32 only with certain kits that I have a direct link too.

1/32 is big enough to hang in my office and detailed enough to be enjoyed from a distance. I grew up on 1/48 though, and won’t go near 1/72… Its just too tiny! I wish that 1/32 kits were as prevalent as 1/72… I’d love a 1/32 b-17 to hang in my office… of course the ceiling might need to be reinforced…

My favorite scale is 1/72. Unfortunately, with age ( I am 64 ) ones vision is not what it used to be and the fingers are not quite as limber. Consequently I have been switching over more and more to the 1/48 scale. More by necessity ,not by choice. A little easier to work with right now. I guess eventually 1/32 and than 1/24 comes next. After that who knows what comes next. Probably, time to call it quits.

Hey its great that you’re still building!!Don’t even think about hanging it up… as long as you’re breathing you’ll be building… its a defect we all share…

I do most of my work in 1/32 and my second choice is 1/24. I have done some 1/48 amd 1/72 but I now find those smaller scales difficult as age has lessened my manual dexterity quite a bit and at times feel as if I have five thumbs on each hand.

Regards,

Richard

1/72

Mainly because I want to be able to build a bunch of kits and still have room to eat dinner, cook, and do my laundry

Cheers

I have to say 1/48, but if you see my disply case you will watch 3 or 4 1/48 planes and arround 15 to 20 1/72 models… the thing is I like better 1/48, much more detailed kits, and (still) a relative fair price…

but I build Argentinian subjets, and in 1/72 you will find mucho more “rare” models, lower prices (a need for my budget) and you will need less space in the shelf

so… if you ask me what´s my favorite scale, I will say… depend…

best regards

Jeremias

Beautiful FW-190 cover, Capone! I’d say it works for you!

When I do decide to break out a plane, I like 1/48. Most of my helis on the other hand are 1/72. Most of what I do though is 1/25 cars and 1/35 Armor with an occasional 1/700 ship.

definitely 1:48. I’ve only built 2 1:72 kits since I started turning out better-quality models (about 2 years ago), and both of them ended up half-finished and very crappily built. I like 48th, because it has a pretty good selection (though not as good as 72nd), but it’s big enough to add detail , but small enough to be able to build a lot of kits. (unless you’re a WWII bomber fan, like me [swg])

I prefer 1/48–large enought to a little crazy (or as crazy as you’d like) with details and small enough that you don’t need to replicate every rivet. The only downside, especially if you like large multi-engine airplanes and bombers, is the display and/or storage space!

I started on 1:72 but began to find it lacking in detail and a bit too toy like. So I’ve moved on to 1:48 which is a good comprimise between detail, price and storage space

I started out in 1/48 scale. Waaaay back in the 1980’s.

I like the large amount of subjects in 1/48 scale. The kit prices aren’t too bad either. I have built some kits in 1/72, but only if I can’t find the same thing in 1/48.
