What's wrong with this Picture??

I just came across this photo on Yahoo news of Tom Cruise in costume for his role as Col. Von Staffenberg but it seems to me that the costume designer made a serious flaw. Looking at the pitcure, do you agree?

Shooting from the hip here, but shouldn’t the eagle patch be over the other breast pocket?

Maybe it’s just me, but the color of the coat seems off too.

Oh, and Tom Cruise is in it. [:O]

I agree with the other comments, and a couple of my own, Isn’t the belt buckle wrong and the stripes on the pants (If they are supposed to be there) look wrong in color.

It’s a Tom Cruise movie, did you guys actually think it was going to be authentic in any way? Frankly I’m surprised they didn’t spell the name wrong! [8-]

Whats the name of the movie?

David

Oh boy… is this mean that Tom Cruise is going to be acting as an “EXPERT” in WWII history? I couldn’t stomach watching Tom Cruise on TV interviews after the movie Last Samurai was released.

Its a Tom Cruise movie. Thats what’s wrong with it, period. Okay, okay he’s not TOO bad but still…

Thankyou

Actually it all looks good to me, and I am up for any WW2 movie these days (Cruise or not), particularly one about Stauffenburg, who was an interesting character IMO…

…if you are thinking he should be SS you are wrong, he was an Army Col. who was seriously wounded in Africa…and the red stripes on his pants denotes that he is working at OKH level on staff…maybe the eyepatch is over the wrong eye???

…the lack of any badges/medals looks a little odd, maybe…

…he would have earned the wound badge and both classes of the Iron Cross (but not the Knight’s Cross) and had a few ribbons as well…colors look fine to me…

I don’t see anything wrong with the uniform. The jacket is Mausegrau, which is an accurate color for an officer, and there’s nothing wrong with the insignia…

It was the trousers red stripe that caught my eye, I thought those were for General Officers only. OKH staff…hmmm learn something new everyday.

What’s wrong with the picture? You can’t see Cruise’s [:D] teeth which means he may actually be acting!

…here is one of my attempts at that uniform color scheme (fig on right):

The Eagle badge over the breast pocket is the wrong style. It should be a stylized “inflight” eagle. Also, if I am not mistaken, as I usually am ( just ask the wife[:)]) the Jacket should be a light blue.

The “in flight” eagle is used only by Fallschirmjager and other Luftwaffe troops - it’s rather obvious why. The one on the uniform is correct for both Wermacht and Waffen-SS troops.

The jacket is fine - Mouse Grey was the standard color for semi-dress uniform for officers.

The only thing wrong with it is who’s inside it[:)] There’s been no small dissention between the producers and Stauffenburg’s family - the German government just barely consented to the movie being made on German soil, mostly because of who was starring in it. They still refuse to let the movie company anywhere near the Bendlerblock (which is good!)

Bendlerblock ???

Bendlerblock!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bendlerblock properly called the Bendlerstraße, now renamed in honor of Stauffenberg as Stauffenbergstraße.

Originally built for the Reich Navy Office, it served as the Reichwehr HQ during the Weimar Republic and was the execution grounds for the Wolfsshcanze conspirators. The German government, well known for it’s anti-Sciencetology stance is refusing to let the producers film the firing squad scene at the Bendelrblock.

While I consider Sciencetologists to be a bit kooky (sorry if anyone is offended), I’m not sure the origin of the vehemence towards Tom Cruise and his chosen “religion” by the German government. If you need a reason to dislike Mr. Cruise, there are ample things to choose from. As for his acting ability, I’m no supporter, but I quite enjoyed Risky Business, and Rainman was sublime.

I actually thought the Germans liked him; maybe I was thinking of the French…the Germans, in general, have been very agnostic as a whole (no offense intended) and very secularistic, so maybe they dislike anyone with strong religious beliefs in general…???..look what happened to Molders…
