I preordered the AMtech 1/48 XP-61E/F-15A Reporter over a year ago and it still has not been released. Recently I preordered the AMTech XP-72 and XP-47H on e-hobbies and since then they pulled all the AMTech models from their website. Is AMTech going under, or are they gone already? Thier website is still up but there seems to be no sign of life. I thought the release of these models was to good to be true. Anybody know whats up?
I remember hearing somewhere that AMtech was having some severe difficulties.
Long story on this one… they had some setbacks when the fella doing the master either jumped ship or was canned… I don’t recall exactly what the situation was, but the fella was no longer involved and work came to a halt.
Then they said that they had found a better reference source (they had been using the P-61 at the USAFM which is pretty much an empty shell) and I assume that they began to do much redesign work.
Then last year the two fellas who pretty much ‘are’ AMtech, had health problems. Again I dunno the specifics but one had back surgery, if I recall, and the other… I forget. I think there was a car accident in there somewhere, too.
Sorry for all this vagueness but I no longer have any of the newsletters which contained this info and my memory is quite fuzzy on the subject. But as Tankmaster said… severe difficulties… and I hope all is well with Alan and his cohort. I don’t know the other fella at all and can’t recall his name but I did have the chance to talk with Alan at the 2002 NATS and he’s a cool guy. Again, hope all’s well with the two of them…
Fade to Black…
I can confirm all that Black Wolf has said plus that the P-61 project is moving ahead. Still no solid release date yet.
There was a news release over at Hyperscale about the situation back in November. The last time I checked it was still posted so if you check there, it will give you more specifics… but no release dates.
Thanks for the info. I hope the guys at Amtech have a full recovery from their ailments. They are really on the cutting edge of unique aircraft. Hopefully along with the kits they are already working on, I hope they produce an F2G Super Corsair. That would make for a impressive collection with the XP-40Q, XP-72 and XP-47H.
