A friend of mine is sending me one of these and I am looking for info on this kit. Anything I need to be aware of? I know it’s set up for RC as well.

It’s approximately the same vintage as the 1/72 Revell kit and is essentially a scaled-up version of their 1/64 scale kit. If you compare it against photos and factory plans, you’ll find that the hull shape is wrong, the cabins are wrong, the torpedo tube mounts are wrong, etc. In other words, if you want to produce even a relatively accurate representation of an 80’ ELCO PT, you will need to reshape/replace a lot of parts and do a lot of scratch-building.

Thanks Al, Sounds like I’ll have a time with it. That’s what I am thinking of doing is some scratchbuilding so, this ought to be a good project.
I’ll check your site for plans.
Eddie
For the price, it makes a good funscale RC kit. The fit and moldings are good.
I have heard it makes for a good R/C but, I don’t have he patience for that. I am considering this kit for the interior detailing that I wasnted to do on my 1/72. More space to work with[:P]
The word is “avoid” !!!
Alright, Spill the beans!![4:-)]
Check out HR Products under ship fittings, they make a lot of stuff for that kit. If you wish to RC it, Lindberg did make a motor set (don’t know if it’s still available) for it and you need a two-channel radio. Not hard to do, if you wish.
I’ll zip over & take a looksey at what they got for it. R/C is out as I don’t have the patience for working with electronic “gizmos” & “doodads”
I’ve been trying to find a review for this kit and not having much luck. I have 70 pages left to search in ships for something on this kit.
Edit** I thought I had seen something on this

Great bathtub boat, built it and threw a rc system and ran it around a pond…
From the pics I’ve seen of completed builds, it looks like the late war 80’ Elco with the big “vent” above the engine room & such. Will compare it with my reference books when I get home later this afternoon.
I know, I’ll need to get a set of plans before I start work on this project…
If you look back thru FSMs back issue listings, in one of the very early issues, there is an article on accurizing the Lindberg PT-109 complete with scale drawings and patterns.
Would you know which Issue that is in? I have looked thru most of my 2 years worth & haven’t seen it yet.
Tia,
Eddie
Eddie,
Not sure but think it was a late 80s issue - will try to dig thru my stack of FSMs tonite - reason I remember the issue is that one of our dogs got a hold of it and I came real close to throwing it away
Thanks, Please let me know.
Man, what a way to remember something[:O]
I’ve been all over the HR Prod. site and checked out the weapons too. Got some 5o cals & a 20mm
are there any places to find “furnishings” for it? Lockers, stove, etc?
Eddie
Finally found it - March/April 1984 issue. article is titled “Building an accurate PT-109” by Gifford Hamilton and starts on p. 22
Thanks for that info. I’ll see if I can’t get a copy of that Issue. Any chance you can scan
the article & Email it to me?
I’m gonna go check out the back issue section & see about it.
Thanks
EDIT** Just checked the back order… can only go back to Jan 1986
Alrighty, The kit came in this evening!! [:D] kit# 70813 motorized versin but, I wont be doing the R/C on this one.

I am impressed with the size & right off I see that the gun tubs & the engine room hatch are wrong. The bridge is also not right, nor the instrument panels. Looks like a late war Elco.
Oh geez… what am I getting myself into?![:-^] Now where can I find some 1/32 diorama stuff /accessories?
Head over to the 1/35 armor stuff/ All the aftermarket gear in the world. 1/32 aircraft might furnish insturments etc.
