what's the name of this?

I saw a gun in a surpluss store the other day. What’s the name of this gun… Description?

It had a long, rectangular clip sticking out of the left side. The barrel had a funny shape to it. The firing pin had a huge spring behind it with a bolt on the right side to load it. The gun had a stocky look to it and it almost looked like a kid made it. I saw a Japanese soldier carrying one in my cousin’s toy soldier set, (kinda pathetic description, eh?) so it might be japanese. I don’t know much about guns, but this one striked my interest.

Might be a Sten, but that is a British weapon.

It sounds like it could be a Swiss made 7.63mm submachine gun that was modified by the Japanese. It was use mostly by the Japanese Marines.

Hi guys, maybe an Owen machine gun

could be a sterling if the clip bends forward and the stock is metal, more modenr though. Or it could a Lanchester smg if the receiver is brass. Japanese Type 100 if the stock is wood and clip bends forward. But its probobale a sten if the spring is visible fm the outside and it looks like a high school shop project[:)]
also through in a couple of less known wwII guns such as german mp18/28, austrian steyr s1-100, and czech zk 383 for fun. all had the clip coming out of the left side.

Maybe a Type 96 japanese light MG

Or a type 100 Submachine gun, fo the japanese paratroopers, how sapper 03 said…

Thanks subfixer, the gun was definitley the sten gun. I recognise it’s straight clip and funny butt end. This is for sure the gun!! I recognise the spring being visible from the side of the gun!

Hmm odd that a japanese soldier might have one, but then, if i were them, i would grab anything other than the crap that i was issued–some us officers used MP40’s instead of thompsons, or they weren’t issued a gun other than an M1911, and just picked one up…
