What's the craziest you've gone with AM parts?

This thread’s an extension of a discussion that started in my search for a WWII German fighter. I figured that instead of keeping it there, I’d start a new thread for everyone to chime in.

So, like the title says, what’s the most you’ve spent on AM parts for any particular kit.

Mine would be for the Revell 1/48 P-61 Black Widow. I figured I’ve got close to $140 in just AM parts alone

I’ve got:

2 Aires resin P&W R2800 engine kits

1 Meteor Productions corrected cowling set

Eduard interior PE set

Eduard exterior PE set

Eduard window masks

Quick Boost resin gun set

True Details Resin Wheel set

LoneStar Models resin cockpit set (on order)

If this doesn’t make the most kick-@$$ Black Widow, then there’s no hope for the Revell kit.

Impressive list!

Now where is Swanny when you need him? He had a list as long as my leg for a B-17 he was working on. I sure hope his wife never found out.

Probably the F2G conversion set by Chris Bucholtz for the Revell 1/32 Corsair. Can’t and don’t want to remember what that set me back. I hope to get up the confidence to build it someday. It is so extensive a set that it comes with the instructions on a DVD. If need be I plan to strip some parts from the Trumpeter Corsair also for that project.

Sounds ambitious to be sure. I usually don’t go to nuts on AM sets but limit it to just a cople of items per build. I can imagine how it can get if one were to get everything possible without duplicates for some kits. I wanted to do the Monogram Kingfisher with all the Cutting Edge stuff but that’s just nuts! For what the kits are going for now and to think you’ll only end up using 25% of it when you are done, plus add $120 or so in AM parts…no way. It’s neat, a friend of mine built one, but just damn, man!

Welcome to the “what were you thinking” club[;)]

I have a list almost long for ONE F-4 Phantoms. Then there’s the stuff for Corsairs - getting there, then there’s Monogram’s B-17. How many detail sets does one need for that thing?[%-)] I think I’m at 7, but may have to check [banghead]

If I listed everything I’ve put together for my visible B-17 build the list would go on much longer than anyone would care to read and as for amount spent? Somewhere around $300 and that does not include the base kit.

A tamiya spitfire

Aires Gunbays

Eduard Cockpit PE

Eduard Exterior PE

It’s good to see I’m not alone.

And even better to see that I’m not the worst one [8-]

…and the Model Police will be knocking at your door shortly…[}:)]

Hehe yup. A guy at my club decided he didn’t really want to build the kit with all the AM so he sold it to me for a whopping 20. Best deal I’ve gotten in my life.

I once bought a set of generic 1/48 seatbelts on special for about $5.99. Umm…haven’t used any of them yet. Does that count?

Guilty as charged. I have the Kingfisher with the Cutting Edge sets, Engine and Things engine, and aftermarket decals. I think the only thing I couldn’t find was a replacement vac canopy. I know Falcon used to make one.

Anyway, that was expensive and I really don’t know the total cost. Nor do I care to.

That might be tied with my RM A-10 with the Flightpath set, Shawn Hull update and aftermarket decals. Ugh.

I’m so glad there is others with this addiction. Although, you have it worse than me!

That would be my current project, an old Monogram B-26-B-55 with the following:

Eduard Photo-etch parts for Interior, Exterior, Bomb-bay & seat belts

QuickBoost engines & machine gun barrels

AeroMaster decal sheet

Squadron vacu-form clear parts

…does a trip to the AF Museum in Dayton, OH to photograph the real thing count as AM?

MIne is probably the Tamiya 1/48 D-9 that is currently on hold. It contains the following…

Kit parts from a DML D-9 (tail wheel, prop blades, spinner)

TD resin 'pit

TD resin wheels

Eduard PE

Metal gun barrels

Moskit exhausts

Third Group decals

There’s also my Tamiya Panther G that will get a JR barrel, Aber and Eduard PE, Third Group decals and Modelkasten workable tracks.
