I’m looking for pretty much any Mk except for the clipped wing ones, I want a fairly new kit. I’m really suprised that I can’t find much in the way of this scale for the worlds most famous airplane.
Revell do the Mk I/II, and Hasegawa do the Vb and the VI. I believe the Matchbox Mk 22/24 was also in 1/32. Eduard do PE sets for the Vb, and there is other AM stuff out there too I seem to recall.
Does Trumpeteer do a 1/32 scale Spitfire too?
Dan
I second the Hasegawa kits! They build up nicely OOB
the Revell-Monogram Mk I/II is a great bargain.
and i believe i read in a review once that some of these sprues are from the Hase kit.
here we go: http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/allies/gb/32rspit1preview.htm
btw, the old R-M 1/32 Spitfire I kit is probably best avoided.
unless you favor old more fiddly builds.
Yeah, I need a 1:32 Spit, too, because I accidentally bought a set of 1/32 Waldron Spit placards along with the !/48s I originally wanted. Comes complete with that incredibly delicate PE throttle quadrant that builds up like a Rolex watch (and has about as many parts, too.) And it really works, if you had a tiny fuel system to go with it. I had the Hasegawa Vb, but it’s a pretty ancient kit. Gotta be something more state-of-the-art out there.
The Hasegawa 1/32 Spitfire Vb is a pretty fine kit, and the basis of the recent Revell 1/32 Spitfire II. The only major issue that needs addressing is the raised panel lines, and, so long as you take it slowly, and do the re-scribing before assembly, there’s nothing too difficult in that.
Eduard did PE sets for the interior and exterior of the Hasegawa Spit Vb some years ago, but I’m not sure if they’re still available.
Chris.
Y’know, I am guilty of operating fingers before engaging brain. Haven’t seen the Revell offering, but the Hasegawa Spit Vb was perfectly good in outline. It was just simple, leaving more room to use our imagination and skills. The same goes for the Hasegawa Me-163. A truly fine, if none too elaborate, kit.
I have become one of those spoiled modelers I so often complain about, and if the state of the art keeps advancing at this rate, we are all going to lose our skills. But, dammit, I AM addicted to those AM parts, I am.
The newer revell kit still basically the hasegawa kit is supposed to have new wings with recessed panel lines but the lines on the fuselage are still raised. Although I’m not to concerned I was hoping to find a MK IIX kit so i could do an aussie spit but I’m happy to do a RAF one maybe a MKII the revell kit sounds ok, I’ll check out the others I didnt know about first though. Thanks
Hi, ROOSTA! Nobody makes a 1/32 Spitfire IX, though Warbirds Productions do a resin and white metal conversion for the Hasegawa kit, here:
http://loru1588.tripod.com/warbirds/id8.html
It’s not cheap ($50 - $54) though.
Hope this help,
Chris.
The Eduard PE sets are both listed still on Hannants website www.hannants.co.uk
BTW, it is possible to convert the Hasegawa Spit to the Mk IX, etc. If you use the Mk VI kit, it gives you the 4 bladed prop, and it is simply a matter of replacing the rear canopy glazing and the extended wingtips with normal span ones. Then comes the surgery to the wings to give the C or E wing, and some fairly major surgery to the forward fuselage. Add in suitable PE bits and voila!! I started one myself a number of years ago, but never completed it. A friend of mine however did complete his and it looked superb!
