What's happeing.

I was just waiting for my model to be judge at the “museum of the regiment” armor contest until I notice a new addition to the museum collection, but it’s not a army vehicle, it’s a jet, a naval jet.

I"m not too famillar with jets (I’m more into WWII propellers planes,) and there no sign near it so what jet is this.

The museum is haveing a addtionnal section to it, the naval museum is moving in, (must be cause the old building was no bigger than a medium house. I just wanted to talk about it here since there bring in new naval aircrafts.

Actually it’s not a naval aircraft.

It’s a RCAF CF5 (A built for Canada version of the Northrop F5 series) A brief precis of the aircraft’s history can be found here: http://www.ody.ca/~bwalker/caf_116701_745_detailed_list.htm (scroll down and look for the aircraft’s serial number #116707)

Just because it has an arrestor hook doesn’t immediately tag it as a naval aircraft. Many modern land-based aircraft are equipped with runway arrestor hooks.

T-Rex, it’s a CF-116A or better known as CF-5A. We flew them as trainers from the mid 60’s (I believe)on to the early 90’s when we retired them. The hook was for an emergency landing using arrestor cables accross the runway at the ends. A pilot could stop the plane in about a 1000’ if needed.

I have logged a few hours in them, a great plane to fly and was sorry to see it go.
