Does anyone in the know about what happened to the Hobbycraft kit tooling once they closed shop? Would love to see some of their 1/48 kits reissued one day.
Academy has a bunch of their 1/48 aircraft molds. F4U, I-16, Bf-109, La-7 come to mind off the top of my head.
Thanks for the info. Would like to see the P-26,P-35, CF-105 & CF-100 kits reissued among several.
. . . and reissue the YP-59 too . . .
Yeah, I enjoyed the 1/48 Hobbycraft kits too. Lacking on interior detail but the overall shape and exterior was good. Didn’t Hobbycraft make some 1/32 aircraft kits at one time that were “Spin Offs” of Trumpeter kits" I remember buying at least a couple of 1/32 Hobbycraft P-40 kits back in the early days of Hobby Lobby’s 40% off coupon days. That was when Hobby Lobby had a great selection of kits.
The P-26, P-35, P-36, and P-40 have also been issued by Academy. But I have not seen the CF-100 and CF-105 since before Hobbycraft went under. I’d love to see the Otter and Beaver reissued as well.
AFAIK, Academy took ownership of the Bf 109D, E, G, K moulds and issued their own kits. Hobbycraft was the only company that produced the early Do 17 family, so I wish another company re-releases them.
Sturmovik, I got the Finnish version of Hobbycraft’s Do-17 from a vendor at a show and I think that it is a good kit. Weak on the interior but overall a good kit.
I had it but sold it, I’ll see if ai can get the rarer E/F version, I don’t think ICM will be doing those soon.
I built the Cf-100 years ago. It is almost old Aurora like in details but not a horrible rendition. With a bit of extra detail added it could be far better. It is the only game in town for that aircraft though. I have considered pulling it apart and redoing it with my more up to date skills but that is way in the future.
Hobbycraft did a series of 1/32 WW1 aircraft that were excellent, some of which have been reissued over the years by Academy and Italeri. Not “Wingnuts” detail or difficulty, but overall excellent general lines, and details suggestive that whoever did the masters really cared about what they were producing.
gregbale, I agree with you about those Hobbycraft 1/32 aircraft kits! I have a P-40, a P-38, and a couple of WWI planes too.
Just don’t confuse them with their 1/28 WW1 kits which were much earlier and horrible!
Which at the same time must be from Revell, which tooled them in 1957!
That would be the ones!
All I can say is that I do miss Hobbycraft being in business. Their kits were getting better and better with each new release. And they were quite affordably priced.
