More work on the Paladin, detail on sub-assemblies are growing
The lights and accessories from Evans Designs came in and I was able to set up Nemo’s lounge on the Nautilus. Gotta figure out how to feed all this through the sub and into the base.
Also got back to work on the Border Spitfire Vb…underside Sky is on…have some putty work to do topside before the top gets sprayed.
Jeeves, that lighting kit in Nemo’s study looks awesome. I’m going to look into that lighting kit when I build my Nautilus.
Started my next project. One that I’ve wanted to build for a very long time. Trumpeter’s 1/32nd scale A-1 Skyraider. I’m building “Blind Faith II” flown by then, Lt. Robert “Bob” Carlsen. Had a very informative phone call with him today. A very humble person. He was attached to the 1st Special Operations Squadron out of NKP in Thailand from 71-72 I’m working on all the research first.
Bought a bunch of aftermarket to dress this one up.
Very cool Chris. A big Skyraider - this should be fun to watch.
What a great project of an awesome plane! I’ll be following this project closely.
I haven’t built a model for 30 years ! I have started a few and for what ever reason something happens then happens again and walla, i have a half built kit I can not complete due to a lack of parts.
Fast forward and im converting a room in my house to be an all purpose man cave/hobby room. Every time I start to get another step forward on making this room usable wife decides it’s a good place to store her stuff or my stuff Thats laying around the house. My room turns into the catch all room.
Today a cleared most “closet is still full” out of the room and my desk is now accessible, I put 11 models next to my desk and all my paints, tools, glues are out.
First build will be a Revell 1/48 P-47 Razor back. Im just going to do an oob build with little concern or correction for seams. I just want to get it 100% complete and Will be starting first 100% build in/of 30 years if not before Saturday evening then it will be started Saturday evening after I get home from work 1-17-26 and I expect someone here to hold me to this.
This 30 years hasn’t gone without , I have been buying a few models here and there over those years and I have many many kits to build.
Any suggestions which one to start with?
Not doing much extra than ann out of the box build. I might do a little engine detailing and straight forward paint no weathering.
Maybe start with the one with a crushed box or the 1/72 just for a quick build.
I’ll finish clearing my desk and organizing tomorrow evening after I get home from work. Just making this plan is getting me stoked to start. It’s been a long time in waiting.
That is going to be a huge kit! I’m very interested in your results.
Wow! You really like the P-47! Looking forward to seeing your builds.
Done a bit more on the chieftain marksman today just doing some painting at the moment while i wait for my tracks upgrade to get delivered
@Pj_s_thunderbolt Nice collection of WWII aircraft kits. The two Tamiya kits you have are among the best ever kitted IMO. I have the Magic Factory Corsair 1A/2 set, but haven’t built it yet.
I think that Academy P-47 is a good choice for a quick build, but I will point out that your Hobby Boss P-40M is indicated as an “Easy Build”. I have never built that Warhawk, but I looked at the instructions on scalemates.com and think that would be an good start as well.
For my dive back into the hobby I’m just really want easy peasy sake n bake.
No seem filling and virtually no thrills glue it, paint it , decal it and call it done. After a few cycles of that with good results and feeling of accomplishment.
I left years ago mainly because I lost the joy. I firmly believe if a have a few builds that get completed and look good it will rekindle the flame.
I bet between my one 1/24 and 1/72 set aside I have in 1/48 & 1/32 somewhere around 50 P-47 kits maybe more.
Omg I hate bots and minimalist character req
It was in response to Cbowling’s 1/32 Skyraider
I’ve finally finished all the research this afternoon. Bob told me yesterday, that there is an expert on all things A-1 Skyraider. Today I spoke at length with Bryon Hukee. He was at NKP the same time Bob was. They became close friends. He had quite a few photos of Bob and his plane he shared with me. (Great reference photos).
Bob’s first plane was, you guessed it, Blind Faith. Another pilot used the plane on a mission and was either shot down, or crashed. Today, Bryon gave me the load out for a Skyraider on a search and rescue mission. On these missions, their call signs were “Sandy”,followed by a number to identify what ship they were. They would travel with a Jolly Green Giant helicopter in search of downed pilots.
This is the some of the aftermarket items I bought. MJ-1 Jammer and load crew, (Reskit). Pilots, (Reskit). MK-82’s, (Flying Leathernecks), Exterior and engine detail sets, (Eduard). AN-M47 bombs, (MPM), SUU-11, (MPM), SUU-14, (MPM. Cockpit detain set from Quinta Studios.
Nice to have first hand account references! Great bunch of AM there!
