After finishing up the body of the car the only thing left to do was mate it to the chassis which was very simple- which is exactly what you want at this stage of a build! Then it was just adding a few small items like the wing mirrors. I also used my Cricut to mask a few logos for the base of the display case.

All in all a very enjoyable kit!

While painting my MaK Nutrocker tank, I dropped the retaining nut for my single-action Badger airbrush needle, which soundlessly disappeared into the ether.

So, I rolled out my backup airbrush, which ironically is a more modern Iwata double-action unit. Although the Iwata is something like 25 years old, it is still in pristine condition due to infrequent use. The Badger is battered and stained from 40 years of hard use, and a lot of the chrome plating is worn off.

I love my Badger, and I admit to not being very interested in learning how to use a double-action unit. But I think is it is time to get going and develop a new skill. I had a few mishaps like the classic pulling back the trigger while forgetting to depress it - so paint dribbles out the nozzle instead of spraying. But I am starting to feel the rhythm of the trigger, kind of like learning how to drive stick shift.

So, the model is no worse off despite having to switch airbrushes.

Learning to use a double action airbrush is relatively easy.

  • Up and Down for air
  • Back and Forth for paint

Like driving stick. Clutch in, shift gear, release clutch. It takes practice in reality. I do admit being unskilled in airbrush use. I also use the wrong hand, as I’m a lefty but airbrush with my right.

Beautiful camo job! I applaud your masking skills.

Ship model is 99.999999999% done being painted. Just a few touchups left in some areas.
Only thing I can’t quite figure out is the very last picture with all the intake/exhaust vents.
Keep using the Light Gray panel line accent color, Leave all the vents white? Or something else? Anybody have any thoughts?

Well to be perfectly honest, necessity is the mother of invention, but I think I got her cruel stepmom instead!

Very excellent Mr Izumi!

Hey it’s Elias! Welcome to the FSM forum, Admiral!

Got a bit more done yesterday/today on the Tamiya Challenger 1.

My first time doing some Pre-Shading yesterday. Pretty straight forward I suppose.

After work today I snuck down again to the bench and shot the first layer it. Went with a desert yellow. A bit dark compared to the reference pictures I’m using but I don’t want to get into mixing paints while trying out the pre shading. I could likely lighten it up a bit but I think I’ll leave it as is for now and see what I can do weathering.

Also got some paint down on the wheels, idlers and drive sprockets, so a pretty productive day!

Today was finishing up the weathering on the old DML Easy 8 Sherman

I’ll get a proper multi view finished thread up once I have the last crew figures finished over the next few days.

Nice looking tank. I like that you didn’t overdue the weathering.

Thank you. I aim for a realistic finish whenever I have good references.

Looking Great :grinning:

Got 90% of the painting done today and most of the kit assembled. Just need to do some finishing details and some weathering to wrap this one up.

I took the day off yesterday after having a medical procedure on Thursday. I spent a couple of hours at the bench yesterday working on my Wildcat and Hellcat, both in 72nd scale. This is outside my norm for single engine WWII aircraft. They are tiny. I painted some more details in the cockpit and then went to applying decals for the instrumentation. I could barely see what I was doing, but the Optivisor helped. Next up will be some more interior paint work - doing the engine, cowling interior, wheel bay on the Wildcat. But that has to wait until tomorrow. We’re heading to College Station, where I hope the Aggies can get me a new pair of Gator boots proverbially speaking, with a win over the Florida Gators.

Optivisor for the win! I sincerely hope your medical procedure wasn’t serious and went well. For me, nothing heals the mind, body, and soul like hours spent researching and building scale models. Best of luck on the’cats! Please be sure to post pictures.
