Thank you Mr. T_S. I have to build vintage kits. My stash is so old that’s all I’ve got.
Me too Strongeagle, my stash is mostly kits from the 70’s-90’s. So that’s what I’m building presently and I’m starting to actually enjoy building them too.
Your Texan looks excellent @Strongeagle! I think you nailed the greenhouse even if it was a challenge.
I’ve been slowly puttering away at oils work on my BA-6 armored car, one flat panel at a time. Building skills one brick at a time. Lay that next brick!
I think that you’ve done a fantastic job on your BA-6. The rear tracks and the weathering really makes it stand out.
That is amazing work- even the handprint on the hood panel. Love the little details…
I’ve been working on a P-51…. and since even the NMF P-51s had their panel butt joins puttied and sanded to maintain the laminar flow wing, I did the same thing on my current project…
recessed panel lines filled with Mr Surfacer 500
Then sanded smooth using finer and finer grits of sanding sticks
Wow Jeeves, I totally missed that hand print on the hood! Good catch.
I have this one about complete. I’m not much into weathering yet but even if I were, I wouldn’t weather this one. I built it for my daughter who saw it in my stash and asked me to make it for her. It was a lot of fun to build. I like the old Pro-Modeler kits and grab them when I can find them. I took these pictures before I put the marker lights and the decals on. If I get a chance, I will update.
Your F-86 Sabre Dog is looking very nice! I agree with you about the Promodeler kits. I always enjoyed them but unfortunately they’re getting rarer and pricey. Their instruction booklets always had great reference photos include in them. I’d still love to get their 1/48 B-17 with the Cheyenne rear gunner and their B-24 kits.
I had no idea they made a B-17 kit. Thanks for sharing that bit of information! I will have to keep an eye out for it.
I painted and test fit Modelkasten’s tracks to the Fine Molds Type 3 “Chi-Nu” tank.
I followed the instructions for the recommended number of links, but it was short by two links. So, I retroactively added the links and all seemed well. One thing was that the middle return roller had only one tiny wheel on the inside of the track horns, so the track had a twist as it passed over it. I may need to glue the links in place to eliminate the twist.
I also began painting the Kaiyodo Jashinhei. First up were the “in between” areas with all that lovely, gooey, mecha detail.
I will confess to being a lazy bum and just freehanded the three colors (metallic black, metallic grey, and a custom mix of a kinda yellow-greenish metallic grey.
I had a little accident when a large moth suddenly appeared. It came from behind, so all I heard was the fluttering of wings and felt something big hit me in the back of the head and shoulders. I thought it was the B-52 cockroach that I had unsuccessfully attempted to kill earlier in the evening, so I freaked out and ejected the load of paint out of my airbrush as I ducked.
Local superstition says that these moths are deceased relatives coming back to pay the living a visit, so killing it was out of the question. I was feeling frustrated, as moths tend to stick around when a light is on, and they just keep buzzing around until the light gets turned off.
But I was in my painting groove, so I waited a bit until the moth settled down - on a light fixture directly over my head. But it stayed put for the rest of the time I was out there painting, so it was all good.
I really envy people who have indoor paint booths!
Good job keeping your composure with that B-52-sized moth hovering overhead!
To be honest I’m not very happy with the color I used for that hand print-- I feel it should be a more sooty, dried-grease, black-grey, rather than a fresh “cosmolene brown,” but I’m not about to attempt it a second time.
Made some progress on cleaning up the backlog in the last couple of days.
Finished this Tamiya 1/35 Cromwell just need to paint the commander. It looks okay but the color came out too dark.
Tamiya 1/35 ISU-152 Painted yesterday and gloss varnished today. Need to put the Berlin invasion markings on it tomorrow.
Tamiya 1/35 Type 61 for the Japanese group build. Having a really hard time on this one since it’s not my favorite.
Been a while since I’ve posted anything. Been working on these little figures for a while. Helping me get some of my painting mojo back. Toothpick in the image is for scale.
Female barbarian on the left is pretty much done, just needs to be reattached to her base. The dwarven druid still has a ways to go, but I think he is progressing nicely.
@GreySnake01 that is some really clean paintwork. I admire your ability to juggle multiple armor builds like that. I can do more than one at a time, but they need to be different genres — one tank, one plane, etc.
Yes! Love these guys. The leather leg wraps (?) on the barbarian are awesome, as is that red red red beard!
I replaced the solid molded-in eyes of Kaiyodo’s Jashinhei with clear blue plastic sprue and using a scrap bit of epoxy putty and a lighter.
The eyes are just dropped in place and the drilled-out eye sockets still need cleaning up. The eyes will get some reflective foil backing. The effect is what I wanted so I am very happy.
Started assembling these Panzerwerk Design tracks for my Crusader build…when I saw the teeny tiny pins I thought maybe I’d go crazy, but I have half of the first half done and they are quick to build…
Coming along nicely Carlos… fantastic job on the office.
