What to use for concrete

I’m wondering what you guys use to simulate concrete (like that found on a race track or road). I was initially going to paint the display case base in a checker board color but decided against it (I’m going to display two 1/12 scale motorcycles). My LHS is phasing out of models and going into RC’s so if you could also provide a link also.

I am also looking for 1/12 scale tool boxes and chests. Anyone have a lead on where I could find those?

For the road, I would use Plaster of Paris, tint it gray for concrete and black for asphalt. Pour it onto your base, sand smooth , and weather. Looks just like a road.
