i’ve seen a few pics in FSM where there was tie downs as extra detail on the tank. what could i use as rope thread is to thin and plain string is really fuzzy. i don’t think it would look like rope.
any suggestions?
please.

There are wires, chains, etc. available at model railroad shops. Sometimes, thread or string can be painted and the fuzz controlled that way, or it can be coated with watered-down white glue. There are also picture-hanging wires which are multi-stranded in various sizes.
Thread is the best thing to use for tie-downs. Using White glue to control the fuzz is a good way to do that, but it tends to stiffen the thread. Bees wax works well for this. Just run the thread over the wax block.
thanks for the input . i never thought about using things for model trains.
i did think about using wax from a regular candle but ididn’t like how the wax made the string look. little pieces of wax kept falling off.
This is an area ship modelers can help us with. I think Model Expo and MicroMark both sell prewaxed black thread for ship rigging, and they also have hemp-color rope substitute.
Try button thread, this is normaly thicker than ordinary thread and looks more like rope. You will still have to wax or whatever method you choose to de-hairfy it.
Canning wax (parafin) will de-fuzz and seal the thread from moisture which is important to prevent sag on a ships rigging.
i went to the hobby shop today and yes they had rigging line for wooden ship models it works very good.
I like strands of copper wire. Get some speaker wire and unravel it. It holds it’s shape better than string
