I have a good soundtrack mix on my Ipod. Midway, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Flight of the Intruder, The Final Countdown, and two Victory at Sea CDs on there, along with a few other sea themed tunes definitely cover my shipbuilding moodsetting
Silence, sports talk radio,or a ball game on the radio
I need peace and quiet, just me and the dogs.
Watching war footage of carnage, death and destruction…
The Hitler Channel
Good stuff. There’s a lot of good soundtracks to accompany your boat building. Such as o"Apocalypse Now" and “Fullmetal Jacket”. A good eclectic mix of tunes that will beg you to play them over an over again.
An ice cold can of Diet Fresca, iTunes library playing on random, and the patience to do a good job! I find if I’m having a trying day, it can translate to the workbench, and I get sloppy. Some days I start working on a project, and within 10-15 minutes I just know I need to stop and come back later! ![]()
If there’s a good ballgame and you’re rubber necking every so often, wouldn’t that just distract your model building? Like if I was watching footy on the telly, and it was good game, I wouldn’t be able to work, I would rather chuck my self on the sofa with a bucket of micro pop. You would have to be both determined and focused to do both.
Peace and quiet and a bunch of lovely dogs does the trick too.
I hate it when nothing seems to go right, no matter what I do to troubleshoot. I find it hard to quit even when it’s time to throw the towel. Nevertheless It’s good to push things away sometimes and come back later with a refreshed mind. Good thinking Batman! Chug those Frescas.
To answer the comment on watching a ball game while building; You obviously have never watched baseball, you could scratchbuild a pocketwatch with baseball on the tube.
Hahaha. That’s good one. Got to work fast then.
I model in the basement, and when it gets humid, it gets that old musty smell of damp wood, fuel oil (I have an old house with Kreosote treated timbers), and sweat (I also have my gym down there. So, its the smell that gets me in the mood. I also will put in a DVD, usually Master and Commander. I add a little ambiance by opening a can of Tuna and let it air to add that hint of ocean/fish aroma, however, it also attracts the cats, which in turn becomes bad juju.
