what ive noticed.

is that most group builds take to long. This means that people get sidetrack with other builds.

So what i am saying is do a short group group build. 3-6 months

LOL!!!

You’re undoubtedly single, no kids, under 25, right?

Wait til you get OLD TOO! LOL!

No offense intended, Paul–that was just my first reaction when I read your post! [swg]

Got to agree with the Doog on this one.

I’ll third that. As well as the length of time it can take to build a model, some people may already be in the middle of a project when a GB is put up. The current way gives them time to finish what they are doing.

in a way i agree with you doog. Just look at my avatar.

a bunch of kids in bathing suits i nthe snow at a hhocket tourney in Nh.

Ah a good time.

jagdpanther302In order to get a Group Build idea to fly (WHO SAID THAT, we’re in the Armor forum ya’ know!!!) you need a “group”.

If the duration is shortened, to say 3 months, some of the best modelers will opt out…art cannot be rushed[;)] ya’ know. Also, depending on the time of the year (summer) other activities are more important (WHO SAID THAT!!!)…and the available build time is less. Know what I mean?[:)]

Hmmm. [sigh]

I agree. I also agree to counterpoint the other’s comments too. Though time can be a concern, what motivation is there in a GB that lasts a year? Come and go as you please. Too many people working at there own pace with little interaction. That’s why I see so many of those GB threads die. I prefer 3-4 months. Keeps people motivated and on their toes. Some still manage to build two during that time! Any longer and people tire of it and fade away. Just my [2c]

[swg] too funny! like the kid who posted he finished an armor kit in 3 days… but working 8-10 hours PER day… heck ,thats couple weeks of bench time for me! LOL

Longer GB also help the latecomers who straggle in 4-5 months into the build because they were finishing other GBs. Once in a while you have a “long weekend power build”, like the aircraft guys who had a miniGB over memorial day weekend.

on the other hand, if YOU set up the parameters as the GB leader, you can make it anything you want!

you know how it goes…first you are young and have the time, but not the money and experience… then you have some money, some experience and no time… and by the time you have enough money, experience and time… your eyesight and coordination goes!

yeah, i probably could’ve spread my time more evenly on my Stuart. But the passion for the build was there, and i had (litterally) all the time in the world. And for 3 days, it turned out to be on of my best builds.

Anyway, i’m split in this argument. on the one hand, a shorter time period encourages me to put more effort into a model when i’m at the bench. On the other, a longer period allows me too take my time on things like those freakin’ single piece tracks for the Big Cats GB (i’m still chugging away at 'em).

It’s funny, for me I build better and faster usually when I am under a deadline, it doesn’t really have to be a GB either. I will typically take around 3-6 months to finish a model, if I actually finish it. I am a proscrastinator, so for a GB I will usually wait until the last month or so to build everything anyway.
Realistically, if I could spread out all of my build time into about 2 or 3 hours a weekend, 6 months is on the short side of the limit for a GB.

TacoBuff - My comment was said in awe, my apologies if it sounded like I was being critical! I wish I could spend 8 hour days modelling, but my old creaky back would not allow it even if I could! And your Stuart came out nicely

no offense taken. Tell you the truth, i’m even shocked i spent that long per day on the thing. Needless to say, my skin was pasty white after i came out of the basement on day 3, ha.

Thanks for the compliments.

I couldn’t agree more. Eventhough i don’t take part in many GB’s on this forum, i have found in GB’s on other forums that 4 months is about the ideal time for a GB, any longer than that and it usually hurts the interaction between the members, or atleast that is my experience.
