So, let’s take Rangatron’s post and turn it upside down.
I’ve been bored silly the last few days. Don’t want to mask the B-29. It is raining. So, I’ve been browsing ebay. Not really looking for anything in particular, but something that would grab my attention. So far, no joy.
I have noticed a few things, though…
There are some really neat subjects in 1/72. Wish more of them were in 1/48. Why in Anigrand so danged expensive?
Could there be any more over produced subject than…Mustangs, Spitfires, F4s, B-17, B-24, B-25, Me 109, and so on? Sheesh. Continually amazed at the number of these that get pooped out for consumption.
In your perfect world, what would you like to see banned from being made?
Not that I think they should be banned, but there are an awful lot of Tigers and Panthers out there, but that being said I have quite a few built and in the stash.
IMHO, I don’t think anything should be banned. I feel the more choices you have the better. Just because another Tiger or 109 comes out, doesn’t mean I have to buy it.
But, I do wish manufactures would make more less known subjects. I would love a 1/48 F2H Banshee for one.
F/A Hornets, F-14 Tomcats, Spitfires, Bf-109s, FW-190s, F-16s, F-15s, F-4s. Corsairs,… I can go on and on… LOL!
I’d like to see at least new tooling of B-52s though. More 1/32 WW1 aircraft, 1/35 scale WW1 tanks and vehicles. More fire trucks/ambulances, construction vehicles. The list is unlimited…
How about having more float planes from Both Wars ? Or more Cruisers and Light Cruisers in 1/350 and such from Both .How about more Civil War subjects .Balloons and Ironclads ?
On the peaceful side more Passenger ships, one, two and three funnels and no funnels . How about one less Bf - 109 or F-4-J Phantom and more of the unsung supply and support planes in scales that won’t run us out of house and home.
This goes for freight ships in 1/350 .Oh, I know they have some fleet support ships in 1/700 , but how about A.Ks and APA and T-2 types from W.W.2 and Korea ?
Last but not least Lets have MORE civil aircraft from the 50s, 60s and 70s ? Not just single engined types either and yes , I’ll take them in 1/48 . T.B.
No subject is tired or overproduced - they are made for one reason only. To make money for the model company. If it doesn’t get made, the reason is equally simple - it won’t make money. The hobby industry in general, and the plastic model industry in particular is littered with the carcasses of companies who have ‘listened to the fans’, and ‘were giving people what they want’. And their reward was crashing and burning.
There are only so many variations to any subjectbut because of their long history of being a popular subject, all variations are looked for and produced. From that point we go to reintroducing the kits with different markings, recessed lines, weapons/ground equipment sets included or seperate, or anything else that can be added to enhance a kit. I remember building a 109 that was molded in red metallic plastic, solid wings, and molded in decal markings.
109s for sure. No disrespect to the modeller that may have spent weeks on the build, but I wouldn’t even look at one if it was posted here. It just seems like every variant and paint scheme has been done over…and over…and over…
