the reason am asking its because i start reading the magazine and i see that a lot. also i forgot what is resin?
Resin ~ Allows for greater detail in molded parts vrs. injected molded processes. Extra time required to manufacture and this is reflected in price. Fine dust from sanding created that should not be inhaled.
Cast Metal is usually a zinc alloy mixed with tin. No lead as lead would pose a health risk with those handling the parts. These parts are made of the same material found to make metal toy cars…Matchbox and Hot Wheels.
PE or Photoetched parts are mainly pressed thin sheets of brass which have bee cut and/or painted to add extra detail to a kit. An example would be instrument panels in aircraft, where you would have a lot of extra detail and clarity by simply gluing on a small pre painted panel on top of the plastic kit part for more realism.
Resin is a substance which can easily be molded into much higher detail parts than most manufacturer plastic parts and are usually added for more realistic parts for kits. Usually these are after market kits and not normally found in the kits you buy themselves. Examples of this could be super high detail exhaust cones or intakes for aircraft, Some also come with additional PE metal parts for more detail.

Not entirely correct. Photoetched material is thin metal which has been subjected to a chemical process which etches away some material and leaves remaining fine details. The photoetching process is an offshoot of the printed circuit board manufacturing process. The process is also referred to as chemical milling. A photographic mask is applied to the substrate material which is then put in a caustic bath to etch/remove unwanted material. Photoetch metal parts allow finer level of detail than can be obtained with normal injected plastic alone.
Resin parts are made from a two-part epoxy-like material, mixed, poured into a mold, and allowed to harden. Resin material is generally more expensive than polystyrene plastic used in injected models. But resin allows parts to be made more quickly and inexpensively when tooling costs and time are considered. In addition to aftermarket detail sets noted above, whole kits made from resin are available. These are generally short-run models of unique subjects. They are often called ‘Garage Kits’, not because they are garage junk, rather because they are produced in someones garage or basement instead of a factory.
