What is going to be the next Group Build?

How about early WWII. Like the Blitz thru France or Poland?

Mark

I think there are rumors of an upcoming SdKfz 251 GB.

YESS!!!

With Tamiya’s new French stuff coming out, and the myriad of polish kits available, I think this could be a fun one to do. If people didn’t want to get invovled, they could pick up a 1/35 scale TK tankette-I think the dimensions of those are 2"x3" when finished.

That would be a good time, the “Phony War” era when Britain and France declared war on Germany because of the invasion of Poland. Lots of good early armor to be found during that stage of WW2.

[#ditto]Hahahahha…I’m pretty SURE there are! [(-D]

That early war build certainly would have a lot of small stuff…by “next” what timeframe are you talking about? I know of at LEAST 2 hot ones going on right now! [:D]

I’ve been tossing a few ideas around: due to some interest “A light-armored GB” and a “Monte Cassino GB”. I kind of like the 251 GB idea, but I’m not commiting at the moment. A “Blitzkrieg GB” would be perfect for September. [:D]

For anyone not wanting to commit to a small tank GB from the early war, don’t worry. The germans did have some Mark IV’s, or you could build one of the three Neubaufarzeugs (multiturret German tank) that participated in the invasion of Norway :stuck_out_tongue: There is a resin kit available from ARMO

http://www.jadar.com.pl/armo/armo35-a.htm

Or you could go with a tankette of some form.

I for one would participate in a 251 build, I would personally like to add a /8 or one of the SP gun varients to my collection.

How bout girls and tanks for manny. LOL [(-D]

I have a suggestion. How about;

“Captured vehicle” - can be any vehicle that was captured and press into service by the new owner.

“Clean your stash” - this can also be good. We need to spring clean our inventory a bit.

“Heroes only” - vehicle has to relfect a hero. IE: Otto Carius with Tiger etc.

Ben

Any of those would be good. I like the girls and tanks, but my skills aren’t real good at figure painting :stuck_out_tongue:

Both of these are basically going on right now. The second In My Stash build just started (and there will be more, guaranteed!). You’ll end up building something that would have been pushed to the bottom of the pile many times…trust me!

As for Heroes, check out the “Panzer Aces” GB that Espins1 and Hermesminiatures have going on - incredible wealth of info and research going on over there. Highly recommended!

How about a specific vehicle for the GB - so that we can pool our references? Also, if there are particular issues with a build, then we can all benefit.

Let’s say, Sdkfz 9 Famo. Good kits are available in both 1:72 and 1:35

All excellent suggestions. I especially enjoy ‘battle specific’ themes, i.e., the recent Kursk GB, Battle of the Bulge & Midway (not a big one for the armor guys…[;)]). It’s fun doing the research and there is usually a number of different vehicles that apply to the battle/build.

How about a diorama group build.

Here are some ideas I threw out there last time we had this discussion:

trucks GB - Opel Blitz, Mercedes 3000, US deuce, Troop trucks, supply trucks, Red-Ball Express, etc. Any era, any nationality, any scale

Anschluss GB - Panzer Is and support vehicles, command cars, armored cars, etc. Can include German, Austrian, or Czech vehicles or figs in service during the Germany-Austria Anschluss of 1938

Combat Riders (Motorcycles) GB - any time, any scale. Only stipulation is that they must be military (of course).

Halftracks GB - I know it’s been done. But do it again. Any halftrack, especially a less-known one.

Russian Fast Tanks GB - Light tanks like the BT-5 and BT-7, with the Christie suspension.

Marines Clean Out Fallujah GB - Maybe limited in diversity of vehicles, but it would be fun, and would honor some of our best guys. I was a volunteer in one of the combat hospitals during the fight, and I say they can’t be honored enough

Operation Telic GB - British armor of the Iraq war

Iraqi Armor GB - T-72M, AMX-30, lots and lots of armor diversity there.

Highway of Death GB - well, maybe not. The road from Kuwait City to Basra, 1991. Probably too morbid.

Blackhawk Down GB - US & UN vehicles involved in Somalia, 1993

Le Legion Etrangere GB: Armored vehicles of the Foreign Legion

Arab Armies GB: Vehicles of the Middle eastern armies, WWII to present (Saudi, Jordanian, Syrian, Egyptian, etc - a very diverse field)

IDF APC GB: Adapted 113’s and whatever else the Israelis are using

IDF Tanks GB: Specifically adapted Israeli tanks, and Israeli-designed vehicles like the Merkava

6-Day War GB: all sides - even Syrian-adapted PzIVs

Tanks of REFORGER GB: Anything that would have served during any REFORGER excercise, in correct period colors & markings

Chinese Armor in Korea GB: Could be Chinese-made, or adaptations of Soviet vehicles like a T34-85 in Chinese colors as seen in the Korean conflict 1950-1953

USMC Pacific Theater GB - Amtracs, Shermans, whatever ya got

Sherman GB - lots more variety there than I used to think, now that I get to looking at them. I know it’s been done before.

Old Boys GB: WWI armor - Male / Female, Whippet, those big 10-man German things, etc

The Dreaded 88 GB: anything with a gun whose bore was 88mm (Tiger, KT, Jagdpanther, PaK43, Pak37, etc)

Grossdeutschland GB

Panzer Lehr GB

Das Reich GB

Patton’s Tanks GB (vehicles serving under Patton in WWII)

Coming up with ideas is the easy part…

Alright, I’m in for most of those…just tell me when they start and what to bring. [;)]

Agree^^

Holy Cow JT. Lot’s of ideas there.

There is virtually endless ideas. I think the North African one in play is a great idea, unfortunately for me, I just wasn’t ready for it.

“Big Cats GB” (Tigers, and Panthers)

“Operation Barbarossa”

“Italian Campaign” (though I like shorting it Monte Cassino)

“Dragon Models GB” (The Italeri one was an overwhelming success [:)])

It helps to find one that people can relate too. There are many great ideas, alas, more to niche GB’s, rather than mainstream.

This was something Eric was talking about earlyer during the week about a Stuart group build. So why not have a light tank group build. There were a lot of them during WWII and would be and endless supply of kits on the light tanks…Digger

I still like an Italian campaign GB, I just hope I could get my hand on a stinking Academy M7 by then. A Pacific theater would be alot of fun too.

I’d be up for something modern too, specifically Iraq. I’m not sure if this has been done recently, but I recommend a Battle of the Bulge GB or the Waning Days of the Third Reich GB.
