What is everyone doing?

Hi!

I am new to the forum and am curious as to what everyone is working on…

For me, I’m working on a Hasegawa 1/48 scale Ki-61-i “244th fighter group”

Also, I’m interested in knowing where everyone purchases their models from… for me, militaryhobbies.com is the cheapest.

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome Mike!
i am currently working on the 1/48 Tamiya Wildcat.

a lot of the models that fill my closet have come from ebay.
others from the hobbyshop, and some from ‘flea markets’.
while this forum is for ‘wingy things’ i will mention that i picked up 3 NASCAR kits while at the Chryslers at Carlisle ¶ show for a total of $11.
and one of the kits (that i paid $5 for) was being sold by another vendor for $20.

pays to shop around.
thanks for the tip on militaryhobbies.com
i use www.greatmodels.com as my ‘reference’ for kit prices.
they have a wide selection.
i will have to check ‘your’ site.

lots of great info here, and even more great folks.
enjoy!

Welcome Mike,
Currently I 'm working on the new Tamiya P-47 Razorback in quater scale.
So far its moving along as planned[:)]. Its going to be in the markings of the 78thFG,82dFS.
There are a few other projects that I’m working on but this is my main focus.
Flaps up, Mike

Hey Mike
I am working on two kits right now. One is 1/35 fallschrimjager figures (german paratroopers) and the other is a gift for my father 1/72 scale CF100 Canuck aircraft.
I buy most of my kits from my local hobby shop.

Hi Mike, I’ve just started Trumpeters Tu-16 Badger that I’m going to finish in the colours of the Soviet Navy. Its not a bad little (!) kit. First one I’ve built from Trumpeter, so I’m keen to know how its all going to go together.
Most of my kits are from my local hobby store, but I also get some of the rarer stuff from eBay. I have to go mail order for my detail bits though

I am “skinning” the monogram “Thunderbirds” F100D. Using Alum.foil instead of my normal set of metallizers. It’s an interesting process to say the least.[B)]

I get kits from various sources: ebay, squadron, a local hobby shop - even went to OAkland, CA to get an out of production kit once. All depends on what I am looking to add to my collection (150 kits and counting)

Heya Mike

Only about a third of my kits are airplanes, but I usually have at least one in the works. Currently, I’m working on two Me-262s from Revell ( 1:72 scale ). The one for me is going to be done in the usual camo pattern, while the other ( requested by a friend ) is going to have a completely historically bogus “Red Baron” paint scheme.

Most of my plane kits are from the local hobby and toy stores.

Welcome Mike, I’m currently working on Tamiya’s Tiger 1. Glued the gun barrel together last night I thought I had lined it up ok. Checked it this morning and theres a step between the two halves… $%%*

Of my many ongoing projects, My WWII aircraft one is the Revell-Monogram 1/48 PBY-5.

The cheapest place for me to buy Hasegawa and Tamiya kits has been through www.hlj.com. I’ve saved nearly 50% in some cases.

Hi Mike I am working on a russian airforce spitfire mk1 and a dam buster Lancaster
HEY Colin replace that barrel with a piece of plastruct or something similar, it’ll save s**tloads of work rectifying it…Greg

The only aircraft {fixed wing} I am woking on is Revell’s P-51D in Chuck Yeager’s Glamorous Glenn III markings.

Hi Mike…

Currently working on a Monogram F-101B… Texas Air Guard markings…
Next after that is a Hasegawa F-4F, and it’ll be done in markings for
the Luftwaffe unit at Holloman AFB.

Beyond that… Have to decide…

Right now I’m setting up the workshop after a move. It’s taken me a little while, since I’ve deliberately left it for last knowing that if I was able to sit down and work on models, I’d never finish unpacking the rest of the house.

When I get everything up and running, I’ve got a 1/48 Typhoon and a 1/72 Harrier GR.3 awaiting decals and a 1/48 F-15I still being assembled. That’s in addition to two minor repair jobs caused by the move and a much needed dusting of my completed planes!

About half of my kits came from E-bay, and about half from a couple shops down in Seattle (about 2 hours away from me). They have this habit of having sales every time I pass through, thereby making it impossible NOT to buy something…

Paint and adhesive I generally get from a hobby shop (principally RC with some model trains and a very little bit of cars, planes, and tanks…) about a half hour away. Details/conversions come from Squadron, GreatModels, and Meteor Productions. Decals come from either one of the shops in Seattle, GreatModels, or Squadron.

Wow, great feedback! I’m gonna become a regular on this site for sure!

I’ve always been into WWII aircraft… I bought a F16 a while back but never started it. I keep buying and completing WWII aircraft instead. I’m also working on a King Tiger because it’s cool looking.

Anyone have any good techniques for enhancing recessed panel lines on an aircraft? I follow the books and their suggestions do not seem to work. i.e. use super-thinned black paint w/airbrush or a standard brush reduced to 4 bristles… I am puzzled as to how they bring out those details!

I have reviewed the suggested sites… militaryhobbies.com is by far the cheapest. I don’t work for them or anything - it’s just that I’ve searched long and hard through all the hobby websites and discovered this Canadian company to be the cheapest. Hope that helps some of you out.

Hey Mike,
Everyone has thier own process for accentuating panels. Preshading looks good, tho I have yet to do that myself. I’ve used FB pencils and brown/black washes. The washes can be applied with any brush and cleans up fairly easily with a cotton swab and clean thinner. Have a clear semi-gloss coat (over future) applied for best flow.

I’m working on the “will I ever finish this” 1/72 F6F5 Hellcat with a 1/48 Tomcat under the bed and a box of 4 aircraft in a box in the garage.

I’m still struggling with the 1/32 Tamiya A-10A N/AW, as well as the Academy 1/35 Tiger I Early Version Full Interior, trying to make room for the Hasegawa 1/48 F-14A. Full plate ahead of me, to be sure…

demono69,
Tamiya makes a 1/32 A10?
or did you mean Trumpeter?

Aurora-7,
it looks like hlj is in Japan. you are in US?
how is their shipping?
and how do you convert the yen prices to $$?

Hi, Mike. Welcome! I’m working on a couple of old Hawk P-51’s, converting an Academy B-17F to a YB-40 in 1/72,and building an old Hasegawa Tiger I in 1/72.

Hi Mike,

I’m working on an Italeri 1/48 Eurofighter Typhoon, it was going to be the
Aifix Tornado GR4, but my son Bought me the Typhoon for my birthday, so
I thought I’d do that one instead.
I could have gone either way because my wife bought me the Tornado GR4
as a thank you present. [:)]
