What happened to AMT?

How come AMT quit producing airplane models? I know they weren’t the best but at least they were of interesting subjects (like the KC-135 and B-52G/H) Yes they needed work but isn’t that what makes us modelers?

Im not sure but I do know that there car kits are alive and well!
Not my favorite car kit but they sometimes have stuff no one else does.

Aren’t they still AMT/ERTL?

Some of the old AMT A/C kits are being reissued with upgrades and improvements by AMTech.

The were bought by Ertl who was bought by Racing Champions who was bought by…

Personally I have never been that impressed with their kits…

I thought Italeri was reissuing the old AMT/ERTL kits, right?

Just as a sideline to this my uncle used to work for them. He used to design and cut the masters for the molds. When they had their first buyout, late 70s early 80s, many employees were let go. I was home from Germany and visited him. My uncle and cousin said come and see what we have in the basement. I was in heaven, kits stacked against one wall. Then the unthinkable happened. My uncle said, " Stew you still build so take whatever you want." I wasn’t greedy, I took 1 of everything with exception. I took 2 Stinson Reliant and 2 birdcage Corsairs. He still has a few kits left. That visit was in March/April of 80.

Boy talk about having a favorite uncle!

When it comes to cars i always get AMT, i don’t do that many cars but when i do its AMT.

G’day Folk’s,

The Owners of the AMT brand of kits, only concentrate on model cars, the aircraft molds are stored in Mexico.
Rumors have floted around in the last few years, that Italeri were buying all the molds to reintroduce the aircraft range. The odd one has resurfaced under AMTech. Maybe the full range will appear one day.

Regards
Rob.

I hope they are gone! I did not like AMT at all because of poor quality and fit problems. They have had good subjects but the models turn out to be a lot like work. To ME that is no fun. All there cars are junk and several of mine are heading to the trash pile soon! taking up too much space

I’m just glad AMT lost the Star Trek kit license.

i think not to sure though they got taken over by matchbox who then got taken over by revell monogram , not too sure though
