What first?

Hey, guys, i was just wondering what the best order for painting/weathering is. Do you guys apply the decals first and then future, wash, future, weather, future… or do you save the decals for last? What works for you guys? [:D]

Hey there, Shrikes.

Congrats on your fourth star!

I usually apply a clear coat over the model first (to minimize silvering), then apply decals, then apply another clear coat to seal the decals. After that, I do a wash, then apply the final clear coat to even up surface sheen.

Hope this helps.

i do pretty much the same but apply decal set to get them to stick better and when there a
almost dry i spray clear coat or dull coat over them and then ether use a wash or drybrush
my weathering on then apply my final clearcoat or dull coat

Shrikes the decals won’t stick to flat paint. That is why they need a glossy surface before you apply. Good luck and how did you get so many posts in such a short time? I have been on for over a year longer and don’t have that many? Maybe half, not even.

I suppose the secret is that i’m an insomniac (well, sort of). That and i love to yak away about models with the fantastic people here! [:D]

I asked this question because the F-86 that i’m also building for the NMF GB is about ready for a wash. i just wanted to know if you guys did that before or after decals (because i don’t have the complete set yet).

Hey, were you able to fix that pesky log-in problem of yours?
