The other day while waiting for paint and glue to dry It dawned on me that I have a lot of empty boxes saved up.
I thought what should I do with them? Then I thought, " lets ask the FSM Forum" and see what they do with their kits.
Its a dilemna,got about 60 with sprues and leftovers in them from each particular kit…they do take up space which could be used for more shelves to display more models.should send them back to the manufacturers for re-use.
Many of mine a full of spare parts, less the sprues. Some, with better artwork, are stuck to the wall of the man cave, and the remainder go in with the rest of the house-hold paper.
There was a thread a while ago about what to do with leftover sprue. Seems like someone actually got hold of a person who said the plastic was not usable for more kits due to the inconsistent quality. Still seems like something could be done with it…
My cat likes it, but he’s not really environmentally-minded.
Good question. Maybe when I run out of space to keep empty boxes, then I will consolidate the left over spruces and dump the empty boxes.

The bigger ones are used for spare parts, the rest are tossed.

I use a couple of them for keeping leftover parts & decals in, along with some lesser used tools / paint. I keep the rest of them for what I suppose is sentimental reason - I just dont like tipping them.
They don’t take up that much room if you keep them like the Russians keep some of their women;
After making sure the box is empty, and all the extra parts are stashed away, I simply cut out the box art and add it to the collage of box arts on my wall(near my workbench.) Now that is some nice art…[t$t]
I cut the top out and keep that stapled to the instruction sheet. Helps later if the model gets damaged or a part is lost.
I cut the extra parts off and put them an old cigar box.
I throw them out
They occupy the space under my bench full of spare parts. When one box fills up I keep that box from whatever I just finished and fill it to the brim and so on. I think I’ve got about 5 or 6 big Tamiya and Dragon boxes full of spares.

I wish I had the box to the first kit I built back in 1966 or 67. I save some of the sprues that look interesting and later come in handy for scratch building, otherwise the box and sprues end up at the landfill. If the artwork is good I will then cut it down and frame it.

I save the box-art to hang and use as reference. I’ve just begun putting spares into a pastic 3-drawer storage that you might use in the office.
RECYCLE
First, put all the spare parts away in spare part storage…
Nest dispose of any remaining sprues…then
If it is an “classic” kit I might save the box but 99% of the time it is out for recycle.

i photo copied the cover art on my favorites and made a calendar, one for dad too.
i keep one or two of them for things like setting paint in incase they spill, and i also use them as paint trays when i use spraycans on things.
I file away the extra sprues and parts, along with the instructions and decals. If the box art is cool, I break down the lid, and store it with the others I have in my closet. Otherwise, I use them to store models, and if they’re too big for that, I toss 'em.
