What do you do with your "KIT" boxes?

The other day while waiting for paint and glue to dry It dawned on me that I have a lot of empty boxes saved up.

I thought what should I do with them? Then I thought, " lets ask the FSM Forum" and see what they do with their kits.

its a storage issue for me: I have very little. I take out the extra/unused pieces, store them, and toss the boxes.

I have heard of people cutting off the box art and using them as posters/framing them in their hobby room. maybe you could try that?

I trim out the box top and put 'em up on the doors of my workshop for inspiration!

I put the kits in plastic bags with instructions, decals, etc. and look for 'Kit builds" to add info. When I get 'round to building I have everything in one bag and the box art for inspiration.

The rest of the cardboard is either used to spead paint/glue and then goes into the recycle bin.

If it weren’t for the large box art, the boxes could be smaller!

When I was a kid, I cut out the box art, with an eye to framing it, especially the old Revell boxes, before they switched to using pics. Other boxes, I threw out.

Fast forward to today, and I’m facing the same dilemma as you are, what to do with them. As someone else noted, the issue is space. I’ve thought about standing them on the shelves, displayed as a backdrop for the finished models, of maybe discarding the bottom halves, flattening the tops along their seam/fold lines (like at the corners), and fitting those into diploma frames to hang on the wall…when I eventually finish the display room [:D]

If there’s really good box art, with no logo in the frame, I’ll cut it out and keep it… Everything else goes out the door…

I pull out anything I want to add to my spares bin and throw out the rest.

I cut mine out… and wallpaper my man cave with them… kinda like a collage… it goes around the room, and I work from left to right…so it appears on the wall in order I built them…[View:/themes/fsm/utility/man cave2:550:0]

I only have the one pic… but they go all around the room on the walls…

PS… I know my clutter is killing some of you…lol

PSS… the Tv is now a 17" flat screen… bigger view… but more room on the desk…!!

RECYCLE

I throw the empty sprues, the unused decals and half of the instructions (the French ones) back in the box and sell them on eBay.

“Rare kit, appears to be complete, no returns accepted”.

I don’t know but I’m tripping over something.

bondoman,

If you could have heard my loud laughter regarding your reply [:D][:'(] Classic!

Leftover parts go in the spares box, leftover decals go in the miscellaneous decal Ziplock freezer bag. instructions get filed just in case I can help someone out and if I like the box art, I cut it out and hang it in the shop…just like everybody else! Len

Must have been you that I bought those “rare kits” from, Mr. Bondo! [;)] Ya got me!
