what do you do with your garbage models?

Just curious what others do with thier models that just dont turn out right. You know, the ones that look like you took 20 years off your age and modeling ability no matter what you tried to do to make it look right?

Last fall I finished a 1:48 Tornado from Italarei (or however that brand is spelled) that looks absolutely embarrassing![xx(] When I was a kid, my brother and I would have blown it up with fireworks or dowsed them in gasoline and lit the match. But now that I am a “responisble” father, I cant really do that. (at least without the wife going ballistic)

This tornado sits in the basement on top of the dog crate in a corner only because I cant stand to throw hard work away yet wouldnt dream of selling it or giving it away in fear of throwing away my reputation (for what its worth) as a modeler!

So what do you do with yours?[}:)]

i have a seperate room that i “hide” them in =)

I keep all my first 10 aircraft in there, my 11th (an AV-8B) actually turned out ok, that’s the one that started the display

I guess I’m fortunate that hasn’t happened yet. But I would probably put in a crash scene. Just my [2c]

What I did was save them for the future.Right now I’m going back to models that shouldn’t see the light of day and redoing them .I took an old A-10 and am converting it into my version of the Firehog. Same with a B-58. I’ve stripped it down and am rebuilding it as the B-58 test bed. I’ve got several more to go. It saves on buying new models. All I have to do is have putty, sanding sticks and new decals.[:)]

One answer : .22 rifle

Bye,Bye Birdie!!!

Send the wife shopping![tup]

Well I lukly havent had that happen yet, but what I would do is take them off the shelf and just use them for a test bed for different techniques, and then put them in my parts bin after there purpose has been served. Latter On I will dive into the bin and drag it out then canibalize it.[:D]

At least they still serve a purpose.

KABOOM!! and its added to my scrap yard!

Models that I have that do not turn out right are just striped of the usefull parts then bye, bye[}:)]

Simple: Parts box[swg]

Test bed for airbrush, each time I mix paint and fire up the compressor, I have a C-R-A-P-P-Y Monogram 1/48 F-14 that I decided has NO hope of ever looking halfway decent…so that is my test bed.

I have no shame, all my models are on the shelf even though some of them should be sold for scrap.

I chuck them and head back to the LHS.

Two uses. Test bed for painting techniques or paint combinations and remove useable parts for the spares box. The basic carcass goes in the trash can eventually. I spent 21 years in the military around things that go bang or boom, so I don’t do that anymore.
Unintentional things happen when you start playing with pyrotechnics and explosives.

good ideas. Especially the airbrush test bed…I guess I was too disgusted with the finished product to even consider that. Guess I’ll keep it around a while

…Oh, and the .22 is a great idea too, however I only own a 12 guage so it will be a one shot thing…=)

Cannibalize them for parts. Then there’s no boneyard, just the business end of an air rifle (neighbors are just too close for me to use a .22 [V])

Mine get stripped for recycled parts, then become test and practice objects. Also have some old Lindberg, Airfix and Aurora kits (real dogs) I keep for the same purpose. I find it much easier to try a new technique on them for the first time rather a brand new high dollar kit - if I make a mistake on them, it’s no foul, no harm.

I either put them in the alley or give them to the local thrift stores.

In my younger days a few firecrackers would usually do the job. Sometimes the resulting carnage was quite gratifying, especially if the build was frustrating and there was some steam needing to be let off. Nowadays I rob them for parts and toss of experiment on the useless hulks.

i havent had any recently but if i did then they would definitely become testing subjects.
