The “classic” Airfix 1/72 scale kit. Raised detail, fit problems the whole nine yards…don’t care I love that plane and kit !
However, does one do a WWII late war bird, Korean War night interdiction aircraft, COIN or fire bomber. Oh ! Howz 'bout Richard Drefyus’s bird from the movie “Always”? (If you have not seen it check it out a good A-26 and a big fat PBY). I was curious as to what the membership thought.
I like the COIN bird but a little free wheeling with a fire bomber would be cool…
I’d go with the COIN version. Just like the way those look. Mean, guns bristling, bombs or rockets on the wings, ready for business. Just my opinion, though.
How about the Korean War night interdiction aircraft? I was looking through some of my old Scale Modeler mags, and found the May 1988 issue with a great little diorama of the Airfix A-26C. I have the 1/48 Monogram kit - I’d love to create a similar diorama.
Well,I agree with you about the movie.Lots of great stuff there,PBY,Invader,C-119 and Holly Hunter. It’s also a movie that your lady will even watch and we’ll enjoy.
As far as the invader, the firebomber would be a nice change from the usual gunship build.I’d say give it a shot.
I’m currently doing the 1/48 invader with all the Eduarde photo etch and maybe a resin engine.I can’t decide to do it with cowlings off or complete engine off.I stil have a ways to go before I must decide.
Good luck with the build
You could always build it as a French machine at Dien Bien Phu! [;)]
As a proponent of Close Air Support, I’d go with any of the “porcupine” versions.
Six gun nose, six guns in the wings, two twin-packs under each wing, and the top turret facing forwards, you have 22 forward-firing-fifties!!! You could even go for the 8-gun nose and make it an even two-dozen, but I like the aesthetics of the 6-gun nose and flat canopy better.
There’s something incredible about a bomber that can dogfight with an FW-190 and WIN!
