What do you do while the paint's drying?

Manny–the Jagpanzer Kanone was the 70’s-era Jagdpanzer based on the Leopard I chassis. I’ve been waiting for one for years…

Doog - the Jagdpanzer Kanone was actually a late-1950s design, produced for the Bundeswehr, Swiss and, IIRC, Belgian armies in the mid-1960s, before the Leopard I was designed or produced. The two are entirely different designs - count the road wheels!

However, by the time it enterd service, its 90mm main armament had been outclassed by tanks like the M60 and Centurion V and VIII, and the T-64, whose frontal armour was well able to defeat 90mm rounds at most ranges, was starting to enter service with the Sovs. Ex-Wehrmacht tankers who had driven Jagdpanzers for real in WW2 also pointed out that the gun had very linited sideways traverse, even by Jagdpanzer standards, and that this would have severely limited its usefulness in action. It was thus used mostly for training.

The Revell Germany kit has been in my LHS for about a month, for £19.99 (say USD39.00). I’d been looking forward to it, but first inspection showed it to be disappointing, For a start, the tracks are entierly the wrong design. since there are several in German museums and as gate guardians, you do wonder how Revell Germany could have got this wrong.

For the time being, at least, I’ll be giving it a miss.

I already knew about the tracks, and apparently the periscope arrangement is wrond also–that’s why I got the “correctd” parts already ordered and on their way! [8-]

Jeff, I just saw that LuckyModel has the Jgdpz Kanone on sale for around only $21.00! [:O] (before shipping!) AARGH!! …“while my wallet gently weeps…”!..[{(-_-)}] LOL!

I tend to paint or glue other components of the kit. That usually means painting tools etc.

Weeellllllll I usually come up out of the basement. Yes my work bench is in the basement. It good that way, wife has to come down to talk. But, during drying time I do the following:

Surf the net

post and hibernate on this forum

watch TV provided I can control the remote. She just loves it when I surf between commercials.

Think of the next project to work on.

When all else fails, I just might do some work around the house.

Warm up from the work session in basement. Man the A/C works great down there!

I’ll second that. I get the next one going. Often I have One setting up, either finish or weathering stage, mabe one almost built and ready to paint and then getting the third one started. The key for me is FOCUS! Don’t go to far on the ladies in waiting while ignoring the 90% done gal. Finish that one before I get going to far on the others.

Sorry, I only spend 1/2 hour on the net a day. This is more than usual. Sorry guys, building is more fun than reading. Now, Back to the workbench Robin!

Doog - at a risk of a further hijack, I already knew about the periscopes, which, it seems are right for the Belgian army version, but not for the Bundeswehr or the Swiss. I didn’t mention them because it seems to be the sort of thing you could put right by a spot of scratchbuilding.

Might be tempted by that LuckyModel price - USD21.00 is about what the model’s worth.

Im really suprised noone has said ‘watch the paint dry’ I do that often, waiting impatiently for the moment I can grab it and paint more… so many fingerprints… [|(]

Slightly more serious, I spend most of my time trying to beat Heavies to death with my scout’s baseball bat in Team Fotress 2 on my PC, its next to my modeling bench, well, part of it actuially (If ya play PM me your steam ID and Ill add you!)

I find that one glass of Franziskaner actually helps steady the hand, and 2 glasses help suppress the second- and third-guessing that I sometimes fall into when modeling. After 2, I’ll just paint and be happy with it.

Maybe I should try that, keep the hand steady. I sometimes keep a glass of red nearby, don’t have to worry about it getting warm. Too much and I just stare at what I’m supposed to be working on.[#toast]
