What do I get her for Christmas?

O.K. my grandaughter is 16 and is into FANTISY movies, books, stuff. She is fairly artistic and loves to paint, create on computer, etc. I asked her for a definition of fantisy vs. sci-fi, the answer was that sci-fi was space and space ships etc. and fantisy was “like, um, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter” etc. etc. Fine[:p] I think I’m looking for a figure of an Orc? I’m certainly not going into nudes (although, for myself…[;)]) Dragons? I need a frame of reference and price. I don’t see anything in the squadron catalog, nor VLS… little in FSM (the mag.) This is gonna be git the kid a model of something that interests her (I got all the tools) and see what happens[:0] it worked with golf[^] So what catalogs do I get? How, What, Where?
thanks guys… G.L.[C):-)]

Fantasy figures? Hmm…

You could search for “Dragon” at Reaper Miniatures. The Reaper Miniatures are all metal and come at a good price.

Reaper Miniatures also has Wizard figures like this:

For Lord of the Rings figures, you could check out the Games Workshop website:

For painting tips and information, view the Games Workshop homepage for Lord of the Rings.

Then there is the official Lord of the Rings website and their shop.

Thanks David, the websites helped, I found several dragons in the 100mm to 135mm range (I’m used to 54mm military figures) but no figures above 80mm or so. I perceive that there is a vast wargameing crowd out there and using 30 to 50mm figures? Yet I see in FSM fantasy dioramas with all sorts of evil, odd creatures, are all the figures scratch built? Come on fantasy and sci-fi freaks give unto me your secret websites and catalogs! Where are those 90 to 120mm figures with a face full fangs, 6 arms and two swords?? … Off to take more prozac… G.L.

This site www.modelmecca.com has had some good sci-fi/fantasy stuff. It’s worth checking out.
