I am always on the lookout for good bases (cause I hate to make them from scratch) so I was wondering whom akes the best bases and where can you find them, most places do not stock diorama bases and they have to be ordered, and that sometimes takes forever. I have used stuff from Custom Dioramics and Verlinden, anyone else make stuff?[:D]
Miller41, Look in the back of Finescalemodeler magizine . There is an ad from Hansa systems. They might have some bases for sale. I have never bought anything from them, but it might be worth a look. It costs $8.00 for a catalog, refundable with the first order. You might also look in craft stores. Good luck in your search.

I normally use wood plaques from wal mart or a craft store and scratchbuild everything else. Whole lot cheaper than premade I would imagine. Some use picture frames allthough I have not yet tried that route but I may soon since the dollar store always has alot of them.
miller,
I know you said you hate to make your own but for $15, you can get a sheet of 4’x8’ 3/4" mdf and make alot of bases. You can paint them to look like whatever you want, and if you seal them prior to adding any groundwork, they are great.
Otherwise lizargqing had it right, the plaques you can find at the craft shops work pretty well. Also if you hit the flea markets you can always find award plaques and trophies. Knock off the trophy part and you’ll have a nice base.
Check the local cabinet shops. Sometimes they have small panels for doors that work great or cast offs they are throwing away.
Trophy shops will sometimes part with award plaques or bases for little or nothing. Especially if they are damaged or mis-spelled. Even if its engraved, you can always cover the engraving with ground material.
Craft stores sell bass wood plates for pyrogrophy, decopage and or carving. Turn them over and you have a sizeable round base.
Michigan Toy Soldier has a section on their website for commercialy available bases for figures and dioramas.

Lizardquing knows the way to go, just get the measurements you need, then get a peice of plywood, and a picture frame to go around the outside of the plywood
