I got a 1/48 Hasegawa A6M2 and I am almost ready to paint the exterior. I have heard of people using different colors of grey to paint them. The only photos of these birds I have ever seen were in Black and White. Even if I were to see color photos, I am so darn color blind that it is hard for me to differentiate the shades of a color. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
BTW I have been using a combination of Testors and Model Master Paints this far. I know testors isn’t the best paint there is but I have a lot of it left over from my first couple of disasters err I mean planes I tried to build.
Most A6M2s, the Model 11s and 21s, were a light gray that kinda tended toward brown, almost a caramel color. They were semi-gloss, as well! The entire engine cowl would be a blue-black. As far as spinners and props go, you will have to check for the individual airplane you are modeling. A great reference site is http://www.j-aircraft.com
Good thing you told me about the semi-gloss paint. I almost painted it in a flat sea grey color. I already painted the cowl flat black but it is a light coat so i dont think another semi-gloss coat will hurt it too bad.
