I know that Future will sometimes fog up because of decal setting solution, but what causes it to fog otherwise?
I sprayed a coat on my F-15E after waiting 48 hours for the MM Acryl paint to dry and it has a light white haze across the spots that I repainted on top of the wings. I had to strip these areas and repaint them so I am hoping I didn’t not prepare them good enough and the Future is reacting with the Castrol Super Clean that I stripped them with. [%-)]
I did wash the wings off very well with water after using the CSC, but I didn’t use any soap or anything else to clean them with.
Mostly, it is water or moisture that causes Future to fog. If there was any moisture left over, or if the paint was still slightly wet, then it would have created the fog. Many times the fog simply goes away when the moisture dries up.
Was there any ammonia in the castrol Super Clean? Ammonia causes Future to break down, which could also account for the fogging. That’s all I can think of for right now, perhaps someone else has some other ideas.
I read something somewhere about Future fogging, but I can’t find it now. It seems like it said that if Future fogs, to try spraying another coat over it and that should clear up the fogging, but I can’t remember for certain.
I tend to agree with Duke in that it sounds like moisture, but after drying for 48 hours I don’t see how it could be. If it were humidity or aomething like that I would have expected it to affect more than just the spots you stripped.
Mike, I had a winshield that I futured, put decals on, then futured again. Then I masked off the winshield to AB some flat black. when I peeled off the mask, it pulled part of the decal off, and so I had to strip the rest off (lesson well learned). Anyways, I used Alcohol to strip it the rest of the way, and it left the white fog you’re referring to. I redipped the winshield with the new decal on, and the fog went away. I don’t know what causes it, but I do know that wet future actually will soften the old layer of future, so they kind of mix together, which is why I think the haze goes away. I would just set it aside, and let it fully dry, before touching it up.
That is on Swanny’s web site and it refers to the fogging from the decal setting solution that I menioned. I had just a small area showing this fogging and I waited about 10 minutes and applied another coat of Future. The fogging then spread to the entire area I had just recoated with Future. I let it sit and now there is only a small area again showing a difference in color under the Future. Hopefully it will all go away over the next 48 hours.
Could be Scott. [:D][;)]
1337,
The paint on the model is MM Acyrl that was thinned with a mixture of 50/50 filtered water and Isopropyl alcohol.
I doubt it. After sitting for 48 hours there would be no traces of iso alcohol at all.
I still see a discolored area after 24 hours so I think I will wait until tomorrow evening and just spray some more Gunship Gray over the Future in that spot and then wait another 48 hours and put some more Future back over that area.
At this rate this model may get finished by summer. [banghead]
I waited 48 hours and then sprayed some more Gunship Gray Acryl mixed with water/iso alcohol on that spot and it covered it nice…until the cracking. [:0]
I guess mixing acrylics with isopropyl alcohol and water is not a good idea over Future huh? I am assuming this is a reaction of the iso to the Future’s acrylic base. So I stripped that area of the wing with Q-tips soaked in Castrol Super Clean, wiped it down good with Poly S Plastic Prep and resprayed it with Acryl once again, this time thinned with a few drops of filtered water only.
Hopefully this will come out alright as it looks pretty good at the moment. [banghead]
