I keep seeing models in galleries painted up in some rather outlandish schemes and they are said to represent an aircraft from Tiger meets. What are these events? What qualifies an aircraft or squadron for them?
Well, I know part of this, but I’m kinda sketchy on all the details. All UN Air Forces are included, and I believe it is basicly a get together, with awards given to the best painted aircraft. Kinda like a car show for jets? Hopefully somebody can give you more details. I hope this helps.
They had somehting about it in FSM a few months back. It’s like a meeting of NATO Squadrons with Tiger names/mascots, and they really go all out in painting their birds.
I’m not at home at the moment, it’s all dark and cold here in the Buffalo area! I’m posting at my sister’s house and have limited time, so I’m afraid I can’t give as detailed an explanation as I’d like. But Tiger Meets are gatherings of NATO units which have a Tiger as their official motif, although they’ve also allowed squadrons with other cat motifs.
They participate in a scheduled program of activities including competitions (in the air and on the ground), and consumption of food and drink in mass quantities. (mostly the latter, I’d say!) And let’s not forget that Tigers like girls just like anyone else… so there’s usually some gals around. [;)]
Tiger Meets sometimes seem to be nothing more than an excuse for putting super groovy paintjobs on jets… LOL (Just do an image search for Tiger Meet.)
Anyhoo, it’s more than that, but as I said, I have to keep it to a nutshell here…
Here’s the Official NATO Tiger Association site…
