I’m a T-Birds-fan m’self, but the Blues are well worth seeing… I prefer the AF’s paint as well… I go back a ways with bothe team, having first seen them when they were all in Phantoms… Hate to admit it, but the Blues do a bit better show, IMHO… Plus, they fly w/o O2 and G suits… Gotta be a few points there… I’m working a Blues collection in 1/48th right now, a “Fifty Years of the Blues” thing, F6F through F/A-18… Including the two "Beetlebomb"s (One Bearcat, one SNJ to play the “Jap Zero”. The SNJ was yellow with “Meatballs”. It’d get “shot down” and a dummy pilot would be dropped from it and then “captured” by a squad of Marines)…
Always wanted to do a “What if” and paint an F-51 in T-bird livery…
Hey, anyone remember the Army’s Helicopter Demonstration Team, The Silver Eagles? Flew OH-6s… Man, that was a long time ago…
Well i’ll tell ya Fred, I’ve seen them and the Thunderbirds many times, and usually i’ve been able to get a decent view. But Many times, even as wide open as the skies were, I still found myself looking for a better spot. [banghead]
One of best things about these aerobatic demostration teams is all this excitement and enthusiasm that is created whenever they perform! Just read all these teriffic posts!
I don’t see much in the way of military stuff flying over my house or (outdoor) workplace, although from where I work, I often see a Blackhawk helicopter flying past Camelback Mountain here in Phoenix. My mother lives not far from Luke AFB, so if I’m out there on a Friday visiting her, I’ll have a chance to see and hear the F-16’s. She once said of the planes a long time ago, “That’s our freedom flying around up there.”
I figure the airshow is in full swing by now. Here’s a question- are the Blue Angels still flying the A modle F/A-18? Or have they changed over to the Super Hornet?
