Its’ an A34 Comet… are they periscopes without covers? I’m not talking about the mushroom cap-shaped other thingy (vent?). Of the walkarounds that I’ve seen, all the comets are post-WWII and well out of commission. Are these supposed to look like this during war time?
Yeah, pretty sure they’re persicopes. I’m working on the bronco comet, and the Voyager update set, and the instructions for the periscopes look just like that.
I’ve scratched out these periscopes, but am unsure if there are parts of them that I’m missing, due to using out of commission tank photos. Know what I mean?
I believe the pic you have is showing “intact” periscopes…so what you see in the pic is what you would hve seen in '45…they do appear to be in the lowered position…
If I’m understanding right, (which I probably am not, Algebra is quite good at numbing the brain) The kit didn’t come with those periscope pieces, but the photos of out of commision tanks have them, so you are wondering if parts were removed before those walkaround pictures, that would have been on a tank in service? Not sure if it helps, but heres a scan I just took from a page of the Voyager update…in the bottom left it shows the assembly to the persicopes, which are attached later. Hopefully that shows how the periscopes below the barrel should look. Or I horribly misunderstood the request. Hope this helps:
Looks to me as though those out of commision pictures are missing the visor thing, plus the vision block is swiveled inward sort of.
Thanks, guys. MR, I trust your knowledge so I am moving forward with that info. Ian- You understood my question completely and I believe you pegged it for me with the scan… the visor dohickamathingamabobs are what’s missing. The kit parts are not hollow inside. I can trim the top off of the original part from the kit. I’ve been debating about whether to pick up that Voyager kit, but ultimately I’m moving forward without it.
…let me qualify that: the “glass” vision blocks look removed or lowered…the apparatus itself could only swivel, not be lowered or raised any more than you see…
