I’ve decided to build my 1/48 Tamiya ME 109E3 as Oblt Bennemann of 1/JG 52 's aircraft. What are the correct colors for this aircraft ?? I’m using Aero Master Battle Of Britain Eagle Day #4 decal sheet it’s aircraft #4. Any and all info and help appreciated.
There should be a painting reference with the decal sheet. Most were RLM 02/71 topside & RLM 65 bottom.
regards, Rick
What yellow is the nose ??
Howdy mic,
I concure to what Rick mentioned, the colours are usually on the decal sheet. But looking at one 109 from JG52, the colours are Over all RLM65(Lt Blue), RLM70 and RLM 02(for splinter/camo scheme)
The nose calls for RLM 02. Hope this helps out!

The aircraft I’m building, as does many Emils of this period, also has a yellow nose is it chromate yellow ?? What FS color or RLM color is it ?? I haven’t built in awhile and I’m raring to go on this. I have a ton of old paints (Tamiya, Testors, Polly S, etc.) and hope I have what I need among them, I’m looking for input on this so I have everything to start the build once my ABs, reference material, decals, and detail kits come in.
Hey mic,
If you have Poly Scale in your stash, they actually have the RLM colours listed on the bottle ex: RLM 02, RLM 04 ect ect…
RLM 04 has more of a mustardee yellowish colour hue where as Chromate yellow has a bit of a greenish hue to it. At least I see more of a green tint in the latter…
This is what RLM 04 looks like…

Hope this helps out my friend…!!

Check out this link for a good rundown on the camo on 109s during that time period.
