What are the Best tanks of WW2 ?

Until they take a hit to the road wheels or damage it in someway. Then it will take along time to fix.

  1. too thinly armored. They may have stacked up well to American stuff but a t-34 would have blown the crap out of them.

  2. sheman, poorly armed and armored. Sure the tank was designed for anti infantry, and not tank on tank warfare. That doesnt make it a good tank, as soon as he meets an enemy tank he has to call for some td’s. The M-10 had about 2 inch frontal armor, pape thin. The M-36 was not much different.

  3. nothing would be close except for the crusader. It had less than 2 inches on frontal armor but was so fast German tankers often could not get one in the sights.

  4. The KV’s are so bulky But none the less quite strong. The T-34 had one down side, the commander was also the loader (or gunner I cant remember). The IS 2 was most likely one of the best tanks. I know little about it but It had to be good as the next generation of Russian tanks were very similar.

Ya, this is a really LAME excuse, but my dad was pressuring me when I was writing that, so I picked the first things that came to mind… Also, technically, there are no “Best tanks”, they ALL have their faults, therefore, there will be consant arguement about which is the best tank of the War. Some will say the Panzer IV and the Sherman, others will say something such as the Jadgpanther or the Cromwell(These are just quick examples off the top of my head…) I guess, really there can be no “Best Tank” because if there was, none would have been lost, All enemy tanks would have been wiped out, and whoever owned these tanks would’ve won the war. One could say the Panzer IV is better than the Sherman, but you have to remember that the Allies won the War. Then you have to take into consideration that we had better infantry, etc… You see, this all leads to a constant debate over just who had the best tank and what was it. In the end, there can be no “Best Tank” in my honest opinion.

Just my 2cents

One might make some argument that the Panzers biggest enemy in 1945, were fighter-bombers. They couldn’t travel in the open or roads much in the daylight.

I wouldn’t say we had the best infantry. Otto Carius describes in his book how the American soldiers were “stupid”. A specific event he talks about, a tank column of 30 tanks just drives through open territory and he had clear shots. But because he was not in his tank at the time, the two Jagdtigers he had did not open fire. So we didn’t have the best infantry, but we did have the best rifle, no doubt. You’re right about no “best tank”. They are all ups and downs. Thats why I hate these posts that come up every month on this forum.

Eric,

Even 1944. I belive panzer Lehr lost 200 tanks from allied aircraft only in a very short period. When you think about it, the airplanes totally controlled. When the Germans broke through at the battle of the bulge, the allied planes could not support their infantry because of bad weather. Guess the Germans should have invested a little more into AA weapons. [;)]

Much as I like German armour, particularly the Panther and KT, I’d have to go with the T34/85, because it was a much more rounded package, combining good mobility, protection and fire power. Not to mention it could be built quickly in huge numbers.

EDIT:Can’t speeeeeell

Thanks for all the postings and the links etc. Great.Interesting. Apologies to those that have endured similar questions in the past , but I’m new to this creepy crawly stuff and trying to get up to speed quickly. Have been exclusively into warships up until recently. Just don’t tell those guys OK

Well most likely the best tank of WWII is the jagdpanther think about the panther was most likely the best tank of WWII now add a 88MM more sloping aromor but keep the same suspension and power pack with 750 HP well what a machine. Then think about the Jagdtiger sure also to heavy for it’s own good and under powered but put it at a intersection and you’ll hold you a advanced for a while with the 128 MM gun and a trained crew watch out .
