Having big fingers, I find it difficult to built Braille scale models. What about a Saturday-Sunday build of a 1/35th, no PE other after=market parts? (To allow for more parts in the larger scale). I am not sure if that is practical or not, so I thought I would just throw it out there
If memory serves me correctly, Fine Scale had an article about building a T-34 (Tamiya?) in a weekend
Yeah you are right about that T-34 in a weekend. The forum participated in the poll deciding what kit to build.
I think however that the T-34 is much much simplier than a tiger. It sounds like a good challenge though.
I figured it would be hard. Maybe even crazy. If we do it, I may put the wife and kids up in a hotel. Wouldn’t want the kids picking up new words!
Wouldn’t that be weekend GB #3?
The old Tamiya Panzer II should qualify, I thought about that kit the other day during the MTD.
Sounds like a good idea, but I think kit selection here is key. I wouldn’t want to spend a budket full of cash on a kit I’m going to throw together in a weekend, but on the other hand, I wouldn’t want a cheap kit that is going to drive me nuts trying to fix. Basically, a good reliable kit mid price kit, say in the $30-$40 dollar range canadian.
edog- I didn’t see a list of weekend GBs, so I must have missed Weekend GB#3,
tigerman- your right, the Panzer II could work
I am sure between us all we could come up with a list of possibles
Would artillery or Flak guns be accepted?
It’s an intriguing proposition, no doubts there, but the stakes are much higher depending on the subject matter. Something relatively cheap and uncomplicated like the Tamiya Pz II would be neat, but I wouldn’t attempt it with anything in my current stash. Even working steadily on weekends it takes me 3-4 weeks to complete something to my satisfaction and that’s OOTB. I would think it would need to be pretty well defined to draw enough participants.
I think with the need for simple kits to do in a weekend, artillery and Flak guns would be fine. Just by limiting the time on this would limit what kits could be done, so there would really be no need to limit it further.
You won’t see too many Dragon kits with indy tracks, I’ll bet the house on that.
Eric,
Don’t tempt me! I need more storage space… [:D]
JWest, I was suggesting that this will be Weekend GB#3 (I think).
I might actually enter this one, but I have to see how things go.
I’m overloading. [:O][:D] Back to the “So many builds, so little time” speach. I must excert control.
I’m struggling with that too…the temptation for serial GBs is pretty strong…but it’s starting to be a packed schedule and that means stress which means no fun in the hobby which means unfinished kits…where’s my yoda emoticon when I need it??? [:o)]
oh, sorry edog. I misread your post. As for Dragon kits, I ruled them out too. For once I would be happy to open a box and see rubber bands!! A lot of the earlier Tamiya kits would do. Their Panzer III and Stug III look promising (although that may step on the toes of the Stug III group build. Of course, you could always say “It took you how long to build your Stug III???” just kidding.)
I’d be up for this, esiecially if it were to happen in late August.
Were you thinking the weekend of the 29th? I am open to any time suggestions. Does the 28th-29th work for anyone? Or do we need more planning time? Sorry- I am new to this. The build would be open to any OOB 1/35th armored subject. Any other suggestions on setting this up are welcome
