hey guys what a response wasnt expecting that.So how can we make this happen?? because im keen as anything. So i was thinking could we make it a SS division like das reich or hitlerjugend either in west or eastern fronts[8]
I might look at Archer to see what generic decals they have. We might be able to pick up a few of the generic number sheets and split them up. Be a good idea to make sure a variety of decaling options are available for whatever one we do.
i saw some dry transfers at my local hobby shop the other day with numbers and divisional markings im thinkin of doing a 251/1 Wurkorper thats if i can find a conversion kit for it and maybe a tiger 1 mid pro or panther all depends on time line
In order for this to happen someone has to lay down the ground rules (as in what scale, start dates etc.) and you should also provide the research as to what vehicles will be allowed, unit markings, camoflauge schemes etc. Take a look at the intro for the Mad Komet Day GB which was really well done. This sounds like a really great, one of a kind group build and I’m hoping it gets off the ground.
Id be in for 2nd SS “Das Reich”.
or maybe (not SS) but a Grossduechland (cant spell it) The decals for them are really easy to find. I must have about 4 decal sheets with the Gross duechland helmet on them.
I am actually doing a Das Reich Tiger for the Tiger Group Build. Never donea Grossdeutschland
Just my $.02, but perhaps we could narrow it down to either a specific battle of time frame. This would let us all do a particular machine form a particular unit with markings/camo/weathering that are the same. Also, this would allow us to render our dios in the same manner. Either way, I think this is a great idea and would definately be in. I am currently working on a tiger, so I would probabbly go for one of the support vehicles. There would have been PzIV, III, and Stugs attached???
Have fun,
Ted
arnhem, or battle of the bulge for my part-that would be fun, i like the western war
Because some of these units also, were later equipped with Tiger II’s (since we are still doing a schwere ableitung right?) We will have to do a little research…be as posted in the last thread, we will have to watch the vehicles that we throw in. As though it would be fun, we have to keep them down, and probably focus on the tanks, because they are the most obvious part of an ableitungs power base.
If we do do tigers, they will have to be detirmined into their Early, middle, or late types…just a thought(to bad, otherwise dragons new 24$ tiger would be my choice!)
ok how about a russian front theme, how about the cherkassy pocket??
or western front say caen??
but i really dont know much about Grossdeutschland?? all i know is that where aan elite whehrmacht division? i’ll dig up some info on them on the net because i mainly have books on the ss and their panzer divisions
you people and your group builds…
i’m in! just say when where and give me all the details…
jeez, like a black hole sucking me in.
the scale will be 1/35th accuracy is the key to this build ?a tank or halftrack from each company from the ableitung should be represented if possible??
that would be very cool. If we each did a different vehicle then we could end up with a division!
For the time period, Caen 1944 sounds great to me!
now just what to build (AA of course)!
Peridexion, what was deployed in Caen 1944? since you know so much, and it is a topic of interest!
Now, before we get embroiled in a heavy thread about who fought where, since I’m too lazy at the moment to review the whole battle, I’m just going to look at the unit deployment map of July 25th, 1944, here on page 75 of Panzers in Normandy, Then and Now. It sort of depends on where we draw the line around Caen, as to which (I’m assuming we want to go the German units here), units we include as being there. Starting on the east side, moving south, counterclockwise, we have the 21st Panzer, sPzAbt. 503, 12th SS Panzer, 1st SS Panzer, 2nd Panzer and 9th SS Panzer, are the closest units. I need to review the battle to find out who did what. I’ll check back in a while.
caen is sounding the direction in which we should go?? It would be good to do caen because my favourite unit fought there the 12th ss (hitler jugend) because ive got a picture on my wall of a panzer mark 4 h of the 12th ss.
and i got abit of info of ss divisions in the normandy front
we would have to pick an ableitung from that unit still…did they have organic tiger battalions in the 12 SS or did they have attached tigers?
The 12th SS Panzer Regiment “Hitlerjugend”, as of June 1944, had 48 Panthers (mostly Ausf As) in it’s first Abteilung and 91 Panzer IV H and J, (~ 2/3 to 1/3 ratio) in it’s second Abteilung. It also had 10 Jagdpanzer IV L/48s, (Still called SS-Sturmgeschutz Abteilung 12 at this time.), 12 SdKfz 10/4 20mm Flak, (at least partially replaced by Flakpanzer 38(t)'s) plus two support and one engineer companies with SdKfz 251/7s.
No Tigers, sorry! [V]
But you do have sSSPzAbt. 101(501) on the 12th SS Pz’s left flank, with Mikie and all that Viller’s Bocage thing going on next door. [}:)]
Personally, I think for all the different types of equipment included in the 12 SS, we should do that, as that would make people happiest, due to people want to do flak, and other various items.
Their Panzer IVs are distinctive, with the crew’s wives and girlfriend’s names shamelessly written all over the tanks. That and their sloppy, hand-painted numbers. I have enough dirt on these boys to answer most questions that would come up. I should have color plates, plenty of photos and enough info to place them on the map.
I can’t really participate in a build however. I have too much to build for upcoming shows. [:D]
