Take care,

Isn’t that a Hunter my good man???

Yes it is, and thanks for noticing. [:D]

I’m shuffling too many pictures here today and got mixed up… just changed it. [;)]

Take care,
Frank

Wow… incredible.I don’t think I would be able to hide that on a shelf though.I believe I would hang mine from the ceiling posing as it is in the pic. Thanks for sharing with us Frank!!

Would be a challenging paint job for the modeler, to say the least!!

Regards, Rick

I saw this hunter back at RAF Fairford one year and I have to say she is a real beauty. I also saw this hunter in 1/48 scale at a contest some time back too. It was one heck of a good paint job and I wanted to congratulate the chap who built it, sadly I never got to meet him at that show so I never got to ask him “How did you do that…!”

hmmmm…colorful.

joe

I thought it looked easy compared to some. [;)]

Mike

Does anyone remember photos of, I think it was, a Belgian Air Force Mirage 2000 with giant sunflower painted on the underside of a mostly black airplane? I’ve always wanted to see that aircraft again, but I can’t remember where I saw the photos, and I’m not even sure I’ve got the AF or the exact type correct. But if you’ve ever seen this delta-winged beauty, you will have remembered it. I want to reproduce it one way or the other.
That Hunter is beautiful, and I’ll bet it drives certain people in Britain absolutely into a tizzy. The kind of people who prefer their Hunters no gaudier than all-over subdued red, or “raspberry.” British dignity and all that, you see. I wouldn’t be surprised if that airplane weren’t owned by some new-money provencial, by gawd.
[swg]

If memory serves correctly, there was a photo within the past couple of years in the FSM reader gallery of a 1/48 or 1/32 Hunter in that paint job.

The real aircraft is privately owned in the UK and I believe the owner named her “Miss Demeanor”

Its owned by Heritage Aviation
Take a look at their site for more pics etc

Theres an interesting article about how the paint scheme was developed. It turns out that a 1/32 scale hunter was painted in the scheme as a prototype for the design.
Theres some great artwork on there which would certainly help if you wanted to paint it up in the scheme[:)]

A great paint job on an equally great aircraft. What camo pattern is that anyway?

Is this the plane you were looking for?

It’s a Belgian Mirage 5 BA, serial BA-33. The paint scheme was apparently applied in 1987 (referred to as Blackbird one), and there is also a less famous sister ship (BA-43) in a blue scheme, called Bluebird one. I haven’t been able to find a pic of the underside I’m afraid. I hope this is of some use to you.

And here are the decals in 1/72 or 1/48 in case you want to do a model of it:

How about that Belgian F-16, with a Spitfire painted on it, anybody seen that one ???

or this one

I have never seen the Spitfire-on-F-16 before. Wow! Come to think of it, I have only seen the second one on the special edition 1/48 Hasegawa kit of a few years ago. By the way, I used the other kit decals to do a KLu F-16, so if you need the Belgian spares I can try to find them after the move, Dany.

That would just be fantastic, Filibert. Do you know, although I’m Belgian I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never made a plane in Belgian markings []

Thanks Filibert, you’re always a standup guy!
And Dan, that F-16 is definitely a keeper. Is that profile from an AM sheet, or do we have to wait for someone to come up with one? If I were more confident in my painting abilities (I admit I’m a whizz at masking, which is no great talent, and I hate the drudgery), I’d attack that complete original with some tape, some frisket film and an airbrush.
Tom

Yes, Tom, the sheets AM, they’re from DACO, you can see (and order) their products at

I got in touch with Heritage Aviation and they very kindly sent these excellent shots of the 1/32 Hunter by Chippy Carpenter to post on the forum
Jonathan said - Chippy even did the cockpits as I have changed them, with the moving map
display and my helmet in the “flying” one. The wheel wells etc are also
detailed.

  • Superb!
    Enjoy [:D]

Thanks very much to Jonathan Whaley at www.HeritageAviation.com

Don’t worry about it, I’ve only done two or three in Dutch markings [:D]. I’ll make a note to look for those decals when I unpack my stuff. It will take a couple of weeks though. If you haven’t heard anything in six weeks, remind me okay? (I know some of my flaws [;)])

@Fiasco: Yowzaaaa! Buy that guy can PAINT![bow][bow][bow]. Thanks for getting this posted here!
