Accurate Armors 1/48 Scammel SV/2S Heavy Recovery Tractor. Seen it done here in USAF colors I’ll do this one in RAF livery for Oct '10
Lots of Grandt ,Tichy stuff . Scratch built steering arm ,of p/e runners and egreen ,(not included in the kit ) Just test fitting a little .Brass lines for wiring ,plumbing , winch control , gas line .The steering and suspension does work. The kit has been upgraded from original . As per usual comments -questions welcome.Better pix this time so I guess I am figgerin it out. Whats the Cyclone for? Its gotta be carryin summat laddie.
2 off - .275" long x .065 wide p/e frets , .0125" thickness ,both have bends as shown in the right of the photo , #65 drill holes , Grandt line rivits and bolts H/O scale .
1 off -.050" dia x .800" evergreen rod , compress one end (steering box) flat for the flange as shown in the left of the photo , right end rounded. Rod to be kinked out at .250" from the flange end to suit .
2 off -.030" dia. x .090" egreen rod ,glued at 90 degrees to the flange , you can see them at the right end.
The steering link connects to the right end of the arm by a Grandt line bolt, the brown plastic under the right end.
There are two Tichy train bolts in the end ,they are visible to the extreme right of the piece.
This is the best photo/description I can do Swanny I think your Scammel could be updated easily. When I discovered the steering arm was not included ,I promptly soiled myself .I then had to spend $170 on two books which supplied enough to build this piece! .Bet ya wernt expecting this! The steering arm is very visible on the actual truck so I had to do it .This way all the parts will work the steering as well.
Base in progress ,3/4" medite w/ Gold Medal models Marsden Runway Matting . Off set matting to make room for the nameplate.Cool stuff…
Some shots of the matting painted.
Testors metalizers ,steel , burnt metel , burnt iron to finish.
Just some pigments for rust effect and glue to the wooden base.Next…
Base finished .Last was Mig pigments standard rust and light rust.Clear coated w/flat clear. The red rust should look good against the RAF blue on the Scammel. Nameplate to finish.
Having some fun with this one .I spent a lot of time on assy here and want this one to be as good as possible.Different thinking in place ,studying the colors for RAF blue I decided to try a colored pre-shade and came up with Humbrol 68 purple, thats right I said purple! Not many purples to pick from so here is the model pre-shaded in purple with wheel masks cut and in play. Gonna try for some blue later ,for now its groovy baby…!
One hour and 15 minutes in purple, laid on the blue mix ,very finely , and I think it worked out ok. It matches the few pix I have if SV2S in RAF color. I will let this dry off for a few days and then have a look.
Wkong- Thanks the kit wasnt too expensive but they are not for the beginner. I lost a part and AA sent a new one expeditiously. Broke lots ,the mudgurds on the rear I dont even think I saw ,they were so thin. I added lots and built a steering arm as the kit don’ have one. Fun to build but work as well.
