Westland Sea King Mks 41 & 43

Hi guys,

I’m not a regular here - I’m usually over on the A/C board - but I thought I’d try my hand at another whirly thing. The last one I built was quite enjoyable.

I picked up the 1/72 Revell Sea King Mk 41 (looks great so far) but I would like to make it up in a Royal Nowegian AF scheme with some decals that I have left over from the Airfix kit that I built a while back. The RNAF scheme says that it is for a Mk 43 Sea King. So here’s my two questions:

  1. Do you know of any real obvious differences between the 41 and 43 Marks that I should look out for ?

  2. The Revell kit includes a bunch of “do not use” parts on several sprues. Do you know if any of these are parts that Revell used on a previous release of a Mark 43 ?

Thanks,

Chris

Ain’t that a great model?

The 43 does not have the Square nose radar, otherwise they are really equal. Make sure you don’t add any of the Sea Skua stuff to it though.
I’m doing exactly the same thing!

The cabin has seats along the right hand side, from the cockpit and back to the door, and two seats behind the radar shack on the left side. the two seats in the back should be there. the early models had one winch, the later has two. nvere versions has the flatter radar too. But if you build a basic 1972 rollout model (062 from the decal sheet I think?) It has a 5 bladed tail, no FOD guard, one winch, and otherwise is the same as the german ones!

Thanks for the feedback Winnie.

Going by the Airfix kit instructions, I knew about the 5 blade tail rotor, and the kit comes with a 5 and a 6 - so I’m in luck !

A while back I bought the Airfix kit cuz I thought it looked like one of the neatest subjects I’d seen. It’s one of my favorite builds - and the bright yellow just screams out “look at me !”

I’m really looking forward to seeing how the Revell version goes together. It really does look like a great kit - the detail is excellent. Who knows - when I finish the RNAF version - I might just go on and build the German Skua version, and then a USN version…

A veritable international cornucopia of brightly colored Sea Kings !

Thanks Again !
Chris

Just as some trivia for you…

Because of the Netherlands and Norway both being close, the spelling correctly should be RNoAF and RNLAF Respectively.

Just to add to your vocabulary![;)][;)]

I have five of the revell things, I got decals of 3 different norwegian ones (Will build the Mk. 43, the Mk. 43A and Mk. 43B.
As well as the 202 and 22 squadron Aircraft. I am currently building another in 48th scale as a Mk. 43A (Early) with Composite baldes and two winches.

Good luck tou you, and thanks for choosing RNoAF!![:D]

Winnie,is that you? What happened to you?I tried to contact you to let you know I found the internal details you wanted for the RAN Sea Kings but you disappeared!Let me know if you still want it (sorry for hijacking your post Bossman!!)

Yep Death,
Lost the old password so had to do a name change…

Have ruined one of the 6 bladed tail rotors, (metal one, was not too good), but still have the sand filter box and a few ods and ends.

SoPM me an address, and I’ll ship it out (Sponsons, Radome and sandfilter?) (You could try to fix the tailrotor if you’d like?)

Cheers

(Edit: Added sentence)

Glad to see someone else doing a Seaking… I have gotten stuck on mine… I am doing the Japanese Navy version… I was so excited when I got it 2 months ago, and put the main body together to be ready for painting, and thats where it stayed…

Chris in Japan

I’m scraqtchbuilding the interior, and have completed various sub-assemblies, and I am putting in a good 3-4 hours every night now. Had to get two different decal sheets, and LOTS of aftermarket bits.

My only problem is that I need two winches, but the two I got does not match…[:D]

My next project by the way is a Canadian P-2 Neptune

Death,

As ominous as you sound - I don’t consider it hijacking - hey, this is a public place. Just put that scythe down and don’t stand so close over my shoulder and we’ll get along just fine : )

OK - here’s another question to add to the mix…

I saw the coolest conversion the other day. It was the 1/48 Hasegawa Sea King all folded up. Main rotors all drawn back and the tail folded back on itself. I didn’t even know they did that !

So now I gotta decide if I want to tackle that kindof project on a 1/72 scale. Any of you guys know where I can find reference photo’s that would show the detail of how the main rotors fold ?

Chris

Death, unfortunately I’m working both sat and sunday (Should be past tense as it is already sunday…) WIll try to get to Canada Post’s office on Monday!.

Bossman, try www.aircraftresourcecenter.com

Shark,

Thanks man - I couldn’t have asked for more - those are awesome.

Chris

Death,

Bits are in the mail!!

Hope you like it![:D]
