Unfortunately, we moved and I am unable to find the plans to finish a such beautiful truck [:(]. Does anyone out here have the detailled plans [?]
I also had a question regarding “hot rivet” technique cause I remember that this technique was used for mobile parts … Does it consist in a hot soldering gun to cap the plastic part [?][?]
Do you have any key words or web site that could offer such plans ? And maybe some of you guys and gals have tips on colors I should use. The plans showed not more than 6 colors …
Best thing to do is search the net for pics of trucks and get ideas. As for the engine, depending on who makes the engine in it would tell you what color it is. You can always use a bit artistic liscense and customize it to your taste. Thats what real truck drivers like anyway right, thier rig to stick out.
a word on hot rivit , what I do for hot rivit is to heat up the tip of a small regular screw driver with a lighter and mush down the top of the pin so it won’t fall back down through the hole , but don’t go crazy , because you want the front wneels to swivel to look like they are stearing,
um the engine I think is a Cummins which can be tan for older or red more modern engine,
to see some of the best model trucks on the www go to plasticcowbow.com
Caterpillars will always be CAT yellow. Cummins will be either tan for an older rig or red for a newer one. The Star you have shown is a fairly new design so if it has a cummins, it should be painted red. Detroit will be a light blue green.
BTW that website is plasticcowboy, and it is cool. They have links to all sorts of aftermarket conversion stuff. Plasticmechanic has it misspelled.
I tend to be leery of the idea of applying hot metal to delicate plastic, and it just doesn’t look very nice, so when the instructions call for hot rivetting, I do one of two things. If the shaft is large enough, I thread a minature nut on the end, or if it isn’t, I cut a thin slice of Evergreen styrene tubing, and attach it with a tiny drop of liquid cement. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can add some slices of styrene rod to the end so it looks more like a miniature fastener.
